Maybe I am dumb but.... What are distant networks? Locals from another area of the country other than where you live?

I can see that Dish has to tell you you're going to lose channels you're currently receiving but since your locals are no longer your locals -- wink, wink -- isn't it a non-issue ?? Sounds like they have no problem playing the "moving" game for their customers.

i moved back to my original address which has locals but the csr just told me if i wanted them i had to frop my locals and i immediatly agreed and i have them on!!!

I guess they have no way to prove it, but it just would seem so obvious what was happening if you said the billing address was not changing. But I guess the CSR really doesn't care either way.

There is nothing unusual about having your statement sent to your principal residence and the satellite dish installed at your second residence.

Perhaps you have cable at your principal residence or outdoor antenna.

So what if there was an issue where a DISH installer had to come out to fix a problem. How do you explain that? Or do you just take that risk and do any fixes yourself?

That's the downside of this.... Your equipment is at the "service address" and that's where the installer is going to go, of course. I'm not sure if Dish really cares when you explain something like "Oh, I brought the equipment back to my billing address for the time being". Will that raise a red flag with Dish ?? Maybe, maybe not.

self install all the way....if you accept that you have to own your own equipment there's no reason for an installer to ever show up.

What area do you tell dish net is your service address in order to receive the distant networks ? Don't you have to indicate to them what area of the country your new service address that can't receive the network channels ?

I did it for a year or so, now do it on D*. Have to move back before making any service calls, or just do it yourself. I always owned my equip with E*. D* made it a little tougher. You just have to find the right CSR, thus play roulette.

I just moved to Reno (actually moved) and called Dish up. I told them I wanted to cancel since Charter was offering a better deal. I have no idea what Charter is offering, it was pure bluff on my part. Tomorrow they'll be out to install a dish, 622, and 2 508s.

It got really weird when it came time to deal with locals. I currently have distants and knew I'd lose them when I moved. She added the locals and let me keep the distants. When I mentioned that this shouldn't be possible with Dish's current litigation she shrugged it off and said "We'll see."

I'm one of the people who absolutely hates the folksy homegrown newscasts and goofy pre-empts from local television. However I could never get waivers for ABC or NBC where I was before so I figure I can live with the local goofiness as long as I can get the station.

I'll know more tomorrow night as to whether I'll actually be getting distants and locals (imagine the sports possibilities), perhaps she was spewing whatever she thought I wanted to hear to keep me from leaving. I didn't quite get the deal I had hoped for but got better than I expected. Getting locals and distants would make the deal all the sweeter. I'm not getting my hopes up though.

How did you qualify for distants just like that?

Doesn't it take waivers and stuff?

Waivers are for receiving one markets stations when you live in a different market, i.e. getting NY locals when you live in Boston.

Distant networks are for people who don't live in any market, i.e. bum-f*ck, middle of nowhere. :D
