Hughes has always ran the Direcway name. They just switch then name not the service.

Hughesnet is arguably the best.
.

I would like to hear that argument. What is the basis of that statement?

*Starband is less expensive @ $49 per month.
*Has a shorter 12 month commitment VS 15 months for HN.
*You can install it yourself after a free online course.
*The new Nova modem is smaller, uses less power and has a native 24VDC power input making it ideal for solar and remote applications if need be.
*You get 10 e-mail accounts VS 5 with HN
*You get free newsgroup access VS none with HN
*You can download a 1GB file before you get Fapped VS much less with HN
*It's only $299 for the equipment VS $399 for HN (sometimes they offer a $100 rebate but why should you have to hassle with that)
* you get a sturdy fiberglass dish VS a cheap metal stamped rust prone dish with HN.

I am just wondering how you can say with such certainty that HN is arguably the best?

So I take it you are going with the classic dictionary definition ie:

"susceptible to being supported by convincing or persuasive argument"

Which is all my post was asking, namely supporting by persuasive argument that HN is the best.

Were you not implying that? I was just curious to see the line of reasoning you were going to employ.

Respectful debate and informed consumers are a dealer/installers best customers and word of mouth advertisers.

Max

Check this section of the forum, you will see that ALL the points of argument has been made already. Do a little reading in the Satellite Internet forum, and you will find them. I believe it is thorough, and I do not have much to add to it.

That's your promised answer?.......Do a search?.......gimmie a break. If you are going to make a claim you really should be prepared to back it up with a little more than "do a search" and "I do not have much to add to it"........ROTFL.

Sounds like you can't really summarize why you think HN is "arguably the best"

Listen, no disrespect intended. I just wanted a respectful debate. Telling me, right off the bat, to go take an English class should have clued me in right away that that would not be possible with you.

My apologies that you feel threatened by open discourse.

You have a good day and "stay the course" sir.

You really think calling me a Dumbo is a sign of intelligence on your part? I read both threads, interesting discussion on the cost of pole installations and WB VS DW. I saw starband mentioned a grand total of once by someone who said they were a dealer/installer. I did not see dick about it being compared to DW...so Mr all knowing English major...where is the beef?

The truth is that both HN and *B have their good points and detractions (do you know what that means?) and depending on your needs one service may be better suited for an individual than the other. To say that HN is arguably the best is a crock.

I am going to stick a fork in this and call it done unless you actually have something intelligent to add.

Not trying to get in the middle of anything, but if Starband is such a great company why have they not become bigger than they are? They have been around for long enough that the name should be alittle more known thoughout.

I think a large part of HN success was their ability to advertise directly 24/7 on their own Direct TV channel (misleading as it was). That advertising reached millions of rural customers and was the perfect target market.

The falling out between Charlie and Starband also did not help matters, he deliberately held back hundreds of thousands of dollars in monthly subscriber revenue and severely crippled them for close to a year. Starband had to go into chapter 11 to get Charlie to fork over the cash and negate the contract. To its credit Starband came out of chap 11 a few years ago a leaner meaner company and now that it is a subsidiary of Spacenet it has significant financial means and support. Remember the famous car rental commercials, "because we are number two we try harder"

I think the new Nova Sky edge modem is proof of their continued commitment to the residential and SOHO market.

BTW Spacenet today had it's 25th year anniversary.

I can respect your thoughts on that, but why were the Hughes advertisements misleading?

Same reason the few starband ones were. They made it seem like you were going to get a product similar to Cable or DSL, no mention of latency and it's effects on popular applications and games, no mention of Fap and not nearly the reliability of delivering promised speeds as well as cable and DSL provide. They were all happy happy Joy Joy, broadband Santa is in your rural community.

Don't get me wrong, if all you have is crappy dial up, sat delivered INTERNET is the next best thing to sliced bread but I cannot stand sales folks that will tell you anything to get the sale only to leave you disappointed after the fact. I make it a point to carefully let my customers know realistically what to expect and I question them carefully on what they will be doing over the connection so I can warn them if it is likely to be a dissapointment.

What do you think? I am sure you saw the advertising, even to this day that is being promoted by some.
