DPP44 switch error

I am having a strange problem with my DP44 switch.
I have the following which was installed on January 2006:
2 5' foot dishes (live in the caribbean) with Dish Pro dual LNBFs pointed to 110 and 119
1 DPP44 switch. Port 1 connected to 119 and port 2 connected to 110
510, 311, 625 (with separator) all connected with RG-6 3,000 MHz coaxial

I started noticing something odd on my 510 box which is connected to port 1 with power inserter of the switch. I can't get any even transponders on my 119 LNBF. My switch test sometimes says 119 Polarity Odd only, sometimes it says all, but when I check the signal for the even transponders it is ok, about 75 to 80. (pic1, pic2)

My 625 gets all channels normally, but when I do a check switch it says 119 connected getting both polarities, then says that on LNB port 2 of the switch something is connected, and the 110 is at port 3 with no signal (pic3). I only have two cables connected to the LNB side of the switch and that is 119 on port 1 and 110 on port 2.

A few months ago everything working perfectly...
Is my switch already dying?

You can try resetting the DPP44 switch by disconnecting everything for a few minutes, feeds to the lnbs and receivers. I will also move the 311 to port 1 and see what happens. I got a feeling that the 510's satellite tuner might be going. The 5xx are known for satellite tuners going bad.

I doubt that the problem is with the DPP44 switch.

I tried the switch reset twice today, first time a couple of minutes all receivers disconnected then tried it again but for a couple of hours. Still everything the same.

The 311 is the only receiver that is working flawlessly. Getting all CONUS transponders on both 119 and 110. I even changed the the to receiver cables on the switch and still works ok. The 625 on the other hand behaving quite the oppiste as the 510. The switch test stayed the same but when I try to check the signal strength on my 110 sat I can only get my own spotbeam....
I can't get to channel 100, and on some channels on the 110 sat the screen stays black for about 20 seconds and then the channel appears, but that is only the first time I try to view that channel, then it is normal.

I brought my 510 to my room where the 625 is and get the same results. 119 only gets odd polarity.

Didn't want to play with the power inserter, so haven't moved that yet...

510 could be going bad.

Do this on your 510, unplug the sat line, then run check switch, it'll do 38 tests and clear the matrix. Then reconnect the sat line and run checkswitch again.

Tried it and still nothing. I had also tried that by mistake on my 625 and also the same.

Just noticed that my 510 get's no signal on sat 119 transponders 6 and 8, while my 311 and 625 get them fine.

Papote,

Have you moved the 510 to a different location? It might be just the cable or the connectors going to the 510.

Moved the 510 to 2 other "To recevier" ports from the switch and still acts the same.

Find it odd now, after changing some of the cable ports, that my 625 can't get any channels on 110 sat. Only my spotbeam and the signal strength is a a lot lower then the other receivers.

This is driving me crazy...

Try making the stingers (center conductor) on the cables coming from the LNBs a little longer. You may also want to do the same for the cables connecting to the switch. The DPP44 needs longer stingers than usual. Other than that I don't know what else could be going wrong.

I have had the same exact problem and here is my "abbreviated" thoughts.
1. The "odd" transponders comming through and not the "all" TYPICALLY indicates a problem with the coax or the connectors because the even transponders are multiplexed at the higher end of the downlink.
2. I went through 5 replacement 501/508s in the last two months as well as a complete rewiring of all my receivers to the DPP44.
3. Something "revealing" happened a few few days ago. Two of my 508s started working and the outside temperature had dropped to the mid 50s in SE Texas. Later on that day neither 508 would work on the even transponders and even 214 even though the check switch showed a 100 plus signal on the 119/6 transponder. Stayed that way for the past three days until this morning when the temperature again dropped to the mid 50s. Everything works. So I get my wifes hair dryer and heat up the DPP44 and no drop out.
4. So there is only one item left...the LMB which in this case happens to be a Dish dual Pro PLUS LMB, not the usual DP version. The installer is comming back to replace the DPP LMB with a DP LMB so I will know if this is finally the problem.
5. Are you sure that you have a DP LMB? Since it rarely gets to the mid 50s in your area (eat our hearts out!!!!), you can't see if it is a temperature issue, but it should warm up and cool off several times here in the next few weeks and I will have definitive information to offer.
6. I did do some voltage measurements out of 508s #3,4 and 5 and the DC output (Unloaded) drops from 21 volts to 14 volts when you switch to a "even" transponder from the odd transponders, so there may indeed be a tuner issue with the 501/508/510 tuners...but again I should have some "closure" when I get a new LMB.

I was looking at the stingers from the cables that my installer made and to me they look quite long. I provided some pics...
I made another cable with the stinger even longer and still the same.

I went a little crazy and added another cable from my dual DP LNB (119 sat) to the third port of the switch, and that seemed to fix my 625 into seeing all my 110 transponders. The 510 still the same....

I even connected the 510 directly to the 119 LNB and the check switch test said that it only got the odd polarity. So it has to be the 510's sat tuner, then.
Damn, I guess you get what you paid for... I paid $25 :D

Dang, that's too long. If it's that big, it will also cause problems.

Since you ran another cable from the Dual to the switch and the 625 receiver works, the problem is either a bad port on the Dual or a bad cable or connector.

:D I thought they might of been a bit long. What do you suggest then? flush to the cap of the fitting?

Just for the heck of it put another cable coming from the 110 to the LNB port 4 on the switch; intresting check switch data (pic DVR-625).
I had already swaped the cables from the LNB to port 1 and 2 on the switch....

Also removed the Power Inserter like mentioned in the other thread.

Papote, DONT RULE OUT THE LMB!! Again, I had the same trouble and have confirmed several times in the past week that my particular DPP LMB flakes out when the temperature outside is above 60 degrees. So far the installer and I have not found a mutual time to swap out the LMB, but I am 99.999% sure this will solve my problem which is very very similar to yours.

Been thinking about playing with the LNB; swapping them out, but they are a bitch to move around in my dish. Got an Invacom QPH-031 lying around but don't think that would work with any of my hardware.
See if I can get my hand on another DP Dual LNB, much cheaper than getting another switch, heh.

The Invacom QPH-031 has 2 outs for DBS service and 2 outs for FTA service. It should work for E* receivers if hooked up to the right outputs. Here is the link for PDF of Invacom LNB's. http://invacom.net/invacom_products.htm#DBS LNBs

I had connected the QPH-031 to the 625 (Circular and Linear ports) without mounting it to the dish just to see if it at least recognized it, but did not. As if nothing was connected. So not sure if the LNB doesn't work or the 625 doesn't recognize it.

Would that LNB work with the DPP44 switch?

What firmware is your 510? Did it take some kind of update maybe? This was a known problem months ago from an update sent to the receiver.
