I've been looking at the Dish website and noticed that they advertise TV On Demand...like I used to have with Comcast but they don't list any programming and it says:

This Month's TV Entertainment

Please check back soon for updates with the latest TV Entertainment programming on DISH On Demand!

I can only see pay Movies on demand on my DVR page but no free TV programming. Is this a service that's on it's way or am I missing something? This is the only thing I miss from Comcast cable.

Thanks,
Pete

Don't get excited it is only PPV movies sent to a special memory area of your DVR, I believe they even have the nerve to charge a dollar more for those ON DEMAND MOVIES.

One, there are free. I actually watched one. However, it depends on your receiver. My 622 has the feature(?), while my 510 does not.

I have a 625. So, again, my question is: Are they planning on expanding this feature a la Comcast so that I can watch 42 episodes of Maude or are they just sitting on it?

Pete

The 522 just had it added. The 622 and 625 have had the tv entertainment stuff for a couple of months. I think there were 3 shows for free viewing when the 522 first got it and they disappeared after a few days. I think there is more free stuff showing up but dish will probably never have on demand like cable unless they start streaming some stuff and use the ethernet port on the 622.

It's been posted that at CES they will announce Dish Online, starting Feb 07, where you connect your broadband internet connection to the ethernet port on the ViP622. This will let you download movies/programs from over the internet onto your DVR. Something like Maude might be made available.

So, will I be able to connect via my wireless network? I don't have a line in that room.

Well, I suppose that depends upon how reliable your wireless network is and if there is a dongle to go wireless from an RJ-45 jack. There is only an RJ-45 jack on the ViP622, not a wireless connection. I suppose something could be rigged up, but my knowledge of wireless is limited. Perhaps someone more knowledgeable than I in this area will chime in.

I wonder if the price for the 622 will go down in Feb '07. Their $199 special ends on Jan 31st. Also, I wonder why they don't just add more content to thier exisiting system instead of going through broadband.

Considering Dish's ability to bring out new products, if they hook up your ethernet and make it work hardwired....
I wouldn't hold my breath for a wireless connection.
However, if some third party device is already available they can press into service, that's another matter.

Configuring a wired connection is beyond the ability of most end-users (yes, the forum members are a cut-above) ;)
Configuring a wireless connection is even more difficult.
The likelyhood that the ViP equipment will auto-configure for more than half the wired user networks is questionable.
The likelyhood that the equipment can auto-configure for properly installed wireless networks is doubtful.

As to speed, even the original 802.11b 11mb wireless (which is doing well to get 2mbps throughput) will exceed the internet connection most people have.
Not that anyone is seriously selling 802.11b any more.
And the 802.11g variants will deliver quite a bit more bandwidth.

You can just run an ethernet to wireless bridge... not hard. My issue is because i dont have comcast cable i only have dsl and its very slow... i guess i may just as well head back to comcast.
