Court tv?

We are happy to provide you some great alternative programming on the Biography Channel. Biography Channel will be provided as an additional benefit for our customers. Additionally, similar programming to what Court TV has is available on A&E which airs shows like CSI Miami, Cold Case Files and Dog the Bounty Hunter, as well as, TNT which airs Law & Order, X-Files, Cold Case and Without a Trace. In addition, popular news stations that cover important trials such as FOX News Channel, CNN and MSNBC are included in many of our programming packages. CourtTV’s programming content is violent in nature and consists of a preponderance of syndicated reruns of content which is owned or sold by CourtTV’s corporate parent.”

Saying Law and Order, CSI, etc...is being used to replace Court TV programming is like saying why do we need NBC, CBS and ABC? After all, they have similar types of programs-they all 3 have sitcoms, dramas, movies, etc...The appeal, I think, of Court TV is the documentary type programming and live programming. Nothing against Law and Order/CSI...but they can't compare to Forensic Files in my eyes.

I respectfully disagree. Your point about the PR spin is well taken, but as for placing blame, one thing is undisputed - CourtTV pulled the plug, NOT Dish. This is an important fact since most of the negative posts on this subject have assumed Dish dumped CourtTV. :)

What we don't know is how long the negotiations have been going on. If they started a couple of weeks ago, bad on Turner. But if they've been going on for months can you really blame Turner for not pulling the plug? It comes back to only Turner and Echostar know for sure what's been going on and it's in their interest to make the other party be the bad boy.

over the past few years it seems that on the 1st day of January is when we lose a few channels. I support Dish in doing this and i believe the new rate hikes have something to do with lifetime early last year. I think dish got screwed by Lifetime. That really was an ugly fight that lasted awhile. I do like court tv and hope an agreement is made. I am still wondering what is going on with cinemax. Still no mention on dish's site about them.

Yes, you can blame Turner/Time Warner/CourtTV. The dissent on this thread has been related to the loss of service. CourtTV is the one that pulled the plug. CourtTV could very well have granted an extension while negotiations continued, perhaps running a crawl or other notification alerting DISH subscribers that they were about to lose programming. It would not be the first time we have seen similar tactics. It is like a fight - you can taunt me all you want, but if I throw the first punch, I am the one charged, even if you had it coming. In this case, CourtTV threw the first punch and thus is worthy of the blame. Just my opinion! ;)

I'm surprised to hear of someone who does NOT like Court TV. Like any channel, they have some programming I am not interested in but they have excellent scientific forensic documentaries. It's not all about shows like COPS and/or trials, there are some great in-depth news coverage I haven't seen on other channels. I'm sorry to hear you didn't like it but don't assume we all feel the same way because I miss it and hope it returns very soon!

I too liked court TV most of the time, espically when they have cops on for 2 hours in a row almost every day. I guess we now know why nancy grace got the job on headline prime now... but after seeing both sides of the issue, I for one have to agree with dish on this one, I don't like Charlie for several reasons, breaking the DNS rules, etc, etc, etc. turner is trying to nickel and dime us here, and I am afraid that court tv is just the beginning, think TBS, TNT, and even the Cartoon network could go next.

Hey now he doesn't have to raise the rates. Yeah right.

"Sources indicated that months of talks were aborted just two hours before the channel was pulled".

Yep, them "sources". They were likely the same folks the reporter was interviewing at Turner. You just don't know, except that Charlie plays this game every year. CourtTV will eventually be back. And yes, we also watch it occassionally.

Do people actually watch CourtTv? I've never met anyone who does.

When discussing a la carte this is what I was featruring.. Courrt tv is a niche channel that few people watch but has a strong following among those who do watch. It is this example that I used when advocating a la carte. I reiterate my position. If one wishes to watch a channel such as Court tv by all means do so..But don't don't make me subsidize it..

heres another news report i just came across http://www.multichannel.com/article/CA6403596.html?display=Breaking+News
“They proposed that [Court TV] move and they get to write their own rate card after they moved it, which wasn’t exactly consistent with our hopes and dreams,” Heller said.

Heller claimed that he offered Dish an extension to continue carrying Court TV on America’s Top 60 for the current license fee.hmmm sounds to me dish doesnt want this channel back on. I wonder if that guarantee no price increase on at 60 has anything to do with this.
Very interesting if its true.

I love Court TV, in fact with Fox News and Fox Soccer Channel these are the only non HD channels I watch. I only watch HD locals only. The forensic Files and Masterminds were my favorites.
This really pisses me off, in Nashville, we have seen the same problem with 2 of our locals, then Lifetime, OLN and now this. It's funny I never here this happen to anyone else. I will be damned if I am going to pay an extra dime next month. They can get rid of all the music channels, get rid of all shopping and marketing channels in the 200's as well. That way they won't have to raise rates. Oh and what the f@#@# is the Reelz channel about? Is their anyone who really watches it. Every Charlie Chat someone requests a channel and the E* boys respond with there is not enough demand for it. Hmmmmm so which idiots requested Reelz? For gods sake get back Court TV and bring us Setanta and if you can't let me know and I will take my money and spend it with someone else.

Good day ta ya.

Better TV for all(My @ss)

I agree...just wish the FCC and the "Industry" felt that way. While I am a sports enthusiast, there are millions of customers being forced to pay Big $$$ for the ESPN channels when they don't even watch sports. That's an even bigger rip-off in my opinion. While it may indeed be difficult to financially support the A la Carte model, I would love for programmers, cable and satellite providers to offer us more flexible choices...a combination of more programming packs, programming groups, and additional a la carte options. Again, why should someone pay for ESPN, ESPN2, ESPN Classic, ESPN News, Etc. when they don't even watch sports? Give customer more options to strip unwanted programming from their lineup. Personally, I would be willing to pay just as much, if not more, for the programming I want just to see the "fluff" channels disappear from the airwaves.
