it seems if I scan it with the cable from the cable co in nothing comes up under a scan....I can get OTA with a antenna and with the box I have the HDMI and that works but I thought they'd be at least something in the clear.....I wonder if I'm doing something wrong...
I have a hdtv tuner but.....

You have an HD tuner, yes, but do you have a QAM tuner as well. Cable uses QAM instead of ATSC which is what OTA uses.
