How To Re-Initialize The Hard Drive on DVR

This was sent to me... have not tried it... for Re-Initializing the HDD on your Dishnet receiver

SELECT THE FOLLOWING OPTIONS (works with Dish 522 and some other
receivers)

1. Menu
2. 6
3. 3 (the Diagnostic screen should appear)
4. Info
5. Right button
6. Left button (screen filled with hexadecimal figures should
appear)
7. Play
8. Play
9. Recall (message saying that the hard drive will be
re-initialized)

Note: only try this as a last resort...

I'd be careful entering any of those backdoor commands. There are some out there that can reformat your hard drive among other things.

Yeah, I do remember a few discussions about re-init bad disk in DVR popping here last few years,that's why the Bil's 'discovery' didn't exite me.

Has there been a thread here with other little goodies like this? Some of these things are pretty good to know as an installer. And I am quite sure that all these receivers have a few easter eggs built into them. Would be nice if there was somewhere that kept a updated list.

Can you imagine someone setting up a small UHF broadcast antenna and sending out these commands throughout the neighborhood using every remote control code in the book? I wonder how long it would take E* to troubleshoot this one...

No.....Nor will it wipe out your PPV purchase history(for those of you that are wondering)
