What would happen if a new (blank) larger partitioned drive were placed in a functioning unit and those key commands were entered? Hmmm...

Guess I'll keep waiting till external USB drive support appears... just hoping it's this year. I'm tired of constantly having to free up space to record more shows.

Can you imagine someone setting up a small UHF broadcast antenna and sending out these commands throughout the neighborhood using every remote control code in the book? I wonder how long it would take E* to troubleshoot this one...

Hm... I think I'd take off the UHF antenna from the back of my 622 in case someone gets the idea to drive around the neighborhood doing that remote sequence. Yikes!

yeah, i tried this on my 625 when i got my 622 in the mail. nothing happened, i got so diagnostics, then info... nothing wlse happened. i tried may time, and i triple checked that i was hitting the right buttons. nothing happened.. sorry for the bad news

Yep, did it on my 622 today. Lost signal in bad weather, and this was the only way to get back the picture. Reboot alone doesn't cut it...and signal NEVER comes back by itself after T-Storm.

might be a good trick to have up your sleeve, if you hate your neighbors and know their remote code.

Just don't forget to change your remote code first could bit you in the butt as well

My VIP622 is acting like it has a mind of its' own. I can't get the signal up long enough to get to my menu screen to try and fix it. If I were to unplug the unit for an hour or so, will I have a good chance at having the receiver re-setting itself? If not, I'll have to swap it out with over 40 hours of recordings that I truly wanted to see. Thanks.........blackfootj

yay, this technique works. I just wiped out a 625.
