SatelliteGuys.US DishNetwork Uplink Discussion - Week Ending 06/16/2007

Can someone help with why everyone is all excited about OTA sub-channel EPG? Here in Cleveland the sub-channels are very limited. Our NBC and CBS affiliate have weather information (which is nice, but I don't need the EPG for that) and the MyTV affiliate has Tube (which, once again, is nice but doesn't need EPG). Oh, and the PBS affiliate in Youngstown has about four religious sub-channels.

Do other cities' stations have real content on the sub-channels?

Yes, you'll find other cities with SD streams mixed in with the HD streams of CW, MyTV, etc. For instance in my DMA, CW-SD is mixed in with Fox-HD, MyTV is mixed in with CBS-HD, and my PBS has 1 HD and 2 SD channels on it's carrier.

So is that to say that you don't have a channel that just carries CW and MyTV as the primary channel?

Correct me if I'm wrong but didn't Dish say Birmingham, AL HD locals were coming soon? New Orleans, LA DMA is also in the beam but I'm betting on Birmingham to be uplinked in a few weeks.

You are correct. Dish announced Birmingham coming this summer at Team Summit.

Why can't I view the channels in the 14000+ range? :p

One other tidbit of information. Echostar 119 Spotbeam 9s12 switched from QPSK mode to 8PSK mode recently. The spotbeam has been empty for quite some time but remained in QPSK mode. It's now screaming in 8PSK glory.

Hopefully it is the New Orleans HD locals, since they were promised for 2006:mad:

Well, I was in different moods when I saw the numbers - you're easy on this stuff. :)
Anyway, there was a trick to see them, but all attempts to select it brought a message "This is virtual channel, blah, blah".

I'm interested to hear about Youngstown PBS having religious sub-channels. I am aware that it is perfectly legal for the local PBS affiliate to lease space to whomever, but I have not heard of any doing so. Can anyone offer more details?

Yup, Harrisburg's PBS has a mixed national PBS HD feed with some of their own stuff. The Harrisburg CBS has My on a sub-channel, along with other independent fare during the day.
The Baltimore Fox has GoodTV on it's sub-channel, and Maryland Public TV has several sub-channels including PBS Kids.
As for the rest, it's just weather or Tube, for which having a guide does nothing.
But we do watch GoodTV alot, so it's nice to know what's on.

Nebraska PBS KUON Channel 12 (Digital 40)

Still broken. They uplinked the OTA in the 14,000 range but the channel has a different PSPID (or what ever they call it) .
We had the same problem when the tried it last spring (did not work).

They go by NET not the call letters KUON so the channel mapping does not work.

I have confirmed this issue on Two different receivers in Omaha and some one else here reported it in Lincoln, Ne.

I tried calling the station, no help. Who can we contact at Dish Network?

The table for mapping needs changed to make it work.

So happy to see my sub channel data up and on for KYTV and KOZK. I couldn"t post back and say thanks to dish as I had a kidney stone and spent about 18 hours in the hospital. Worst pain I ever had,as some of you may have had one and know what I mean.

Oh yeah. Three times in the last twenty five years.

Sent an email to AV Quality and they verified with another group that it is a "TSID mismatch." They said they are working to correct it. Hope it's true!
