Dish 622 L4.05 Software (the software formerly known as 409)

:DI hate to act like a NOOB,(which I am to Dish, but should the 622 be left with the power on all the time to grab FW updates, or should you shut the power off at night to make it happen?

thanks for tolerating a nother NOOB!:D

It needs to be turned off (Stand-by) in order to get guide info and firmware updates.

That is correct wase4711. Once your box is targeted if you put it in standby it will take the download within a min or so.

Actually, I think that the 622 will upgrade at the time specified in your Program Guide update setting (menu-8-5) - even if the receiver is on - as long as nothing is recording.

I don't turn my 622 off, and I have inactivity standby turned off, and I get Guide updates daily at the specified time, and I had L409 when I woke up, without the receiver being off.

Scott mentioned that one of the fixes in 4.09 was to the HDMI port. I've had a problem for weeks now, where my HDMI port is dead until I reset it via the Diagnostics menu. I had my fingers crossed that 4.09 would fix the problem. Well, it made it worse. The reset trick no longer works and the HDMI port is still dead. Since Dish has told me that this was a software issue, they were unwilling to send me another 622. Component works, but I don't have enough component ports on my TV for this to be a long term solution. Since Dish won't send me another 622, I pretty much out of luck unless it's fixed in 4.10 (I may be at DirecTV by then).

Yes, it will do it then as well. But the easiest way to get it is to turn it "off" (really standby) for a couple mins and if you are targeted you will get it.

I did notice dish pass is enhanced quite a bit.. not sure when that happened.. looks like you can choose hd only, sd only, hd prefered.. choose the channel.. new or all episodes (which I remember looking for before so I know this is pretty new)..

Now they just need to enhance the search capabilties .. so you can look for people in a movie.. hd only.. etc..

And make it so you can EDIT the channel a timer is setup for (especially if they are going to move channels like they have in the past)...

Ok so I must not look at the system info screen (menu 6-1-3) that much. There is a new icon that was green and had HDD inside. It was box F. I would think that it means the hard drive is ok but not sure. Anybody know for sure?

Thanks

Here's a really nasty L409 issue:

Tonight, we had a very heavy down-pour. Rained hard for about 10 minutes...I was watching the NASCAR race on HDNet and when I heard the rain pounding on the roof, fully expected a rain-out any second. Yep, sure enough, lost signal and waited. It rained hard for about 8-10 minutes. When it started to slack up, I looked out the window to the south to see how things were in the LOS path. Skies were lightening up to the south, so I figured I'd get signal re-acquisition any minute.

It was checking various TPs on all 110/119/129, like it couldn't find anything. Checked the skies again - it'd had stopped raining almost entirely and to the south, in the line-of-sight path were broken clouds. My 622 was still checking to get a signal.

After 15 minutes of waiting after the squall had passed, I rebooted the box. It came back up, but still couldn't acquire a signal. It kept searching, to no avail. Tried another soft reset. It rebooted, came up again, still couldn't acquire a signal.

Okay fine. Turned of the TV, powered off the UPS for the 622 and the TV and waited about 5-6 minutes. Powered up the UPS, waited for it to do it's battery check, then turned on the TV. The 622 had already done it's spin-up and "light show". It downloaded guide info, then nothing. Not a thing. I waited another 5 minutes and did another soft reset. It rebooted, locked onto 110, TP4, did it's 0-5 count and up came the race.

Prior to L409, after a rain-out, I never had problems with it re-acquiring the signal, especially with favorable sky conditions to the S-SE.

So, is this a new issue to 409, or just a quirk one-off (hopefully) incident?

Hmm, that is a big problem indeed. I don't have L4.09 yet so I can't say anything, but I would report that one to E* ASAP!
