I have the Denver locals only and have been using them in Colorado and New Mexico with no problems. We recently traveled to Billings, Mt and I received the channels. Now we are in Stanley, Id and the locals do not show up on satellite 110. Dish support said the national ABC CBS, NBC and Fox were not spotbeamed. They s/b on satellite 110 and transponder 22. We can get good signal strength on trans 22 but when we go to the guide(which has no locals) and back to check signal strength it reverts to transponder 21. Any ideas?

Thanks
Bob

Guess support was referring to the 4 major networks when talking about nationals.

It looks like ABC (Ch 7/8200), CBS (Ch 4/8201), NBC (Ch 9/8202) & FOX (Ch31/8203) are on Sat 110/TP-22, and CW (KWGN) (Ch 2/8204) is on Sat 119/TP-20. Since these 5 are not on spotbeams, it must be due to no line of sight, equipment malfunction, and/or operator error. Your dish may be picking up the sat at 119 instead of 110.:D

NOTE: I may be mistaken, but I think at the 119 location, Dish only has transponders at 21 and below.

The other Denver locals are on Sat 110/TP-12 (Channels 8204 - 8215), but are on Spotbeam 30, so you probably will not pick them up on your travels.

If you have an MPEG4 (HD) receiver, you can set your dish for the sat at 129 and get the Denver Major 4 digital versions on TP-2.

Thanks for the reply. I brought up satellite 110 and 119(my coordinates 158/30 171/30) and I get the same channels on both satellites. e.g. ch 111 DIY 121 HIST1 207 CNBCW 307 HBO 400 TENIS 500 PPV 825 AZTCA 892 CNBCW 919 9601 9900. On the Sirius channel it say our smart card is not authorized for this channel. I get my signal strength on transp 22 but when I get the guide and go back to signal strength the transp reverts to transp 21. In the past(2 mos ago) I used transp 21 and 14 and had no problems. Is transponder 22 something new for the Denver channels? Could a updated smart card cause a problem like this? My receiver is a JVC Model 2700. I tried 2 different dishes with the same results. Does a check switch test do anything with a basic dish with one LNB? Sorry for all the babbling but I don't know what to try next!

Thanks for you time
Bob

Looking at the list of channels at EKB: Dish Network Channel Chart (Unofficial) , all of the channels you listed are on Sat 110.

On most, if not all receivers, when you go to the Dish Point screen to check signal strength, it will show the Sat/TP/Strength for whatever channel you had just been looking it. That is the reason for reverting back to a different Transponder.

If your system was setup and peaked to both 119 & 110, using LNBF and/or switches, you will be able to change satellites in the menu and get readings for both. If not, then it may give you readings for 110, but tell you wrong satellite found.

Even though you said that you brought up 110 & 119, it appears that you were actually only receiving Sat 110.

I don't know if your single LNBF is a Single or Dual LNBF for a Single satellite location, or if it is a Twin which is used for Two satellite locations. The Single and Dual but have a single Eye with either one or two outputs. The Twin has 2 Eyes to see 2 sat locations.

If your Dish Network subscription is only for Local (Denver) Channels, then you will get all but Channel 2/KWGN using a 18" dish set for 110.

To get all of the standard definition Local Denver Channels, you should have a Dish 500 with a Twin LNBF.

I believe the Model 2700 is a Legacy Receiver. Therefore, it is not forward compatible with a DishPro LNBF, so you would need a Dish 500 with a Legacy Twin LNBF to receive both 119 & 110 without having to re-adjust/re-peak the dish each time you wanted a different satellite.

Dish has been known to move channels around from one TP to another, and also move locals from one satellite to another, but not that often. Except for discontinuing one channel awhile back, I think the Local Denver Channels have been in the same place for at least a year. In either case, your receiver should not have any problems finding the channels if it is pointed to the correct satellite.

And of course, if you are out of the Spotbeam's coverage area, you will not pick up those channels.

Check Switch --- It does not hurt to do a check switch. You may get an error message saying no switch found or something like that.

I have a single LNB using one coax outlet. When I said I get 110 and 119 I mean that I get a +70 strength(green) on 110 and then I rotate the dish to the 119 location and got a + 70 signal(green) on 119. Both satellites show the same channels so something is malfunctioning! Could a receiver problem be the culprit.

Even when channels are spotbeamed they used to show on the guide. eg If I tried to bring in the Denver PDS channel outside the Colorado region it would come back with spotbeamed on transponder 4 and I would not receive it.

I have used this dish in numerous areas of the West with no problems until now. Is there some areas that would not receive the CONUS feeds like Denver locals on 110?

Thanks again,
Bob

When they(dish support) said that the Denver locals come in on transponder 22, is that the only transponder that you can pick them up on? I used to use trans 14, 15, and 21 in the past?

Did you look at the current locations I posted above? Notice the CONUS on some of them. CONUS means Continental US coverage.

I tried satellite 110 tp 22 to pick up 8000-8003 with the results I posted above. They do not show up on the guide.

This is where they are at. No ifs..no buts..about it. Make sure you are pointed at 110w. Then perform a check switch. Make sure you do not have any favorites lists or blocks on these channels. If they are subscribed then they should appear.

Probably dumb question--but you said 110w--is the "w" meaningful i.e is there more than one satellite 110?

Is the CONUS a throw-back to when Denver was a Distant net?

I think it has more to do with the size of the Denver DMA. Probably a bit bigger than many spot beams can handle. Of course that bags the question that part of the DMA is outside the spot beam footprint for the must carry stations.

As for the original question, I was also going to suggest the check switch. It sure looks like the guide isn't recognizing the fact that the sat changed.

The 110W stands for 110W longitude, which is the meridian line the bird hovers over. All of the satellites we can see are at a W longitude, so we generally just drop the W.

I did a check switch and it came back with "no switch found". That s/b the case since I don't have a switch. It did go thru the 38 steps.
