This is an interesting possibility. I'll probably lease a 942 when it comes out and (assuming there is a year commitment) see where SBC is regarding their strategy at the end of the commitment.
I have this exact setup in my family room (811 and 501). You have to run seperate coax for each receiver from the switch. It is like they are in different rooms. Just a fact of life no matter if you are using E*, D*, or Voom.
Lets see - $76 for E*, $86 for Cingular (3 mobiles), $49.95 for SBC DSL, $89 for 2 phone lines (long story, live too far away from Dallas, have to pay a special unregulated access fee). I'll take the $200 a month and run!
Well D* would not upgrade my worn out 16 bit box (actually the remote!) or my 8 bit box even though I had been a sub for nearly 6 years and had been a terrestrial DSL Customer. So please don’t put them on too high of a pedestal.
I think part of it is that many folks jumped on E*’s bandwagon several years ago because they were the underdog and really seemed to care and listen to the subs (plus they pushed the locals issue). Things like Charlie Chat, Retailer chats, etc really made people want to be part of the team and...
Noted Gerry! Of course I won't make any change until I see what D* does but I gotta tell you it seems that Charlie is asleep at the wheel (sorry off topic here). I really need to check about some how switching to SBC/Dish and going for that sweet looking 2Wire box......
