    DishPlayer 942 is (NOT) out!

If you have $700, you can get one for your own and form your own views... http://www.dishnetwork.com/content/products/receivers/HD/index.shtml

Will Dish have MPEG4 by year end?

This is an interesting possibility. I'll probably lease a 942 when it comes out and (assuming there is a year commitment) see where SBC is regarding their strategy at the end of the commitment.

Will Dish have MPEG4 by year end?

Yup, the 2 Wire box is MPEG4. http://www.2wire.com/?p=13

I want 2 receivers in 1 room, why can't I split from the wall to the receivers?

I have this exact setup in my family room (811 and 501). You have to run seperate coax for each receiver from the switch. It is like they are in different rooms. Just a fact of life no matter if you are using E*, D*, or Voom.

Is there a planned replacement for the 811?

OK Scott, spill the beans my friend!! ;)

What Does MPEG-4 Mean for the Dish 811?

Or in my case, it turns into just an OTA turner until the whole MPEG4 thing is resolved and a "reasonably" price DVR box is out there.

SBC & Dish in new Joint Venture

Lets see - $76 for E*, $86 for Cingular (3 mobiles), $49.95 for SBC DSL, $89 for 2 phone lines (long story, live too far away from Dallas, have to pay a special unregulated access fee). I'll take the $200 a month and run!

Charlie Chat and Chat this Monday...

You forgot "Unplanned phone problems"!

    I swear this is B.S.

Well D* would not upgrade my worn out 16 bit box (actually the remote!) or my 8 bit box even though I had been a sub for nearly 6 years and had been a terrestrial DSL Customer. So please don’t put them on too high of a pedestal.

    Buying the correct DVI cable?

I ordered mine from Cable Wholesale. Tenth of the cost of say CC. http://www.national-tech.com/catalog/dvivideocable.htm

Why Do I See So Much Hate For Dish?

(heavy sigh) Just remember that many of the HD subscribers will also fork out more money for HD content and the providers like that!

Why Do I See So Much Hate For Dish?

I think part of it is that many folks jumped on E*’s bandwagon several years ago because they were the underdog and really seemed to care and listen to the subs (plus they pushed the locals issue). Things like Charlie Chat, Retailer chats, etc really made people want to be part of the team and...

SO I cancelled Dish and they sent me the WRONG boxes

I saved the boxes my E* receivers came in......

First Look: Dish 942 HD/SD Receiver (Updated 1/24/05)

Noted Gerry! Of course I won't make any change until I see what D* does but I gotta tell you it seems that Charlie is asleep at the wheel (sorry off topic here). I really need to check about some how switching to SBC/Dish and going for that sweet looking 2Wire box......

First Look: Dish 942 HD/SD Receiver (Updated 1/24/05)

Needless to say, seeing that "MPEG2" on the front of it is very distressing. I'll wait until E* releases the official specs on it (they do tend to change their mind!). If it is indeed only MPEG2 then BFG your statement is absolutely right - you are a fool to buy it (and no apology to any one who...

SBC & Dish in new Joint Venture

Unfortunately it seems that if you have your service directly thru E* instead of SBC, you currently do not qualify for anything. One person said they talked with SBC about switching to E* service through SBC. SBC told that person you had to be without E* service for 9 months before you could...

Allow me to tap my brakes just a tad bit. Of course working software is alway a nice thing to have! :p

SBC & Dish in new Joint Venture

My thoughts exactly plus just solved the MPEG4 issue with E*. (I have E*, SBC local service, SBC/Yahoo DSL, and Cingular service - cut me a deal Ed and Stan!)

SBC & Dish in new Joint Venture

Well this certainly has some potentially interesting ramifications. That is a pretty nice box and - "Video formats: WM9, MPEG-2, MPEG-4, Real Video". There is our MPEG4 answer! ("edited" Always helps to read the whole article) "The offering will be available to customers who have both SBC |...

Is The 811 Really That Bad?

My 811 has been very stable (2.81). Very happy with it.

First Look: Dish 942 HD/SD Receiver (Updated 1/24/05)

I would expect the movie industry to continue to pressure the DBS providers very hard to ensure (as much as possible) to limit the ability of a subscriber from "down loading" any type of DVRed programming. So don't hold your breath on the USB/Firewire ports being activated anytime in the near...

Hey Dish, Whats Up With Tnthd ?

If it wasn't filmed in HD, not much TNT can do about that. Besides do you really want to watch "Smokey and the Bandit" in HD?? :D
