I haven't had a landline in decades. I traveled full time in my RV for 10 years with 2 722s and later with Hopper. A landline would have been difficult. Currently have Hopper III it has never seen a landline.

I finally broke down and called Dish tech support. They explained that no Dish remote is expected to operate more than on/off and volume. Any other functionality is accidental and may be corrected if they become aware of it.
