    DVR Intermittent hell

At random intervals my HR21 decides that it cannot find any satellite siginals; two other basic receivers have no trouble finding signals, Red reset button or a power disconnect reset solves the problem and the DVR starts working again. The problem is the this happens way to frequently -...

    A Rant about directv2pc

First, a little history why I do not think I am out of line with this rant. I retired a few years ago after spending nearly 40 years working with computers;all the way from an IBM602a to the IBM 9400. I wired control panels on the earlier equipment and wrote programs in nearly a dozen...

    directv2pc

Thanks for the reply, jhaifley; the VM network adapter is setup as .NAT. I'll see if I can get "briged" to work. Had some problems with it first time I tried, (don't remember what they were) MARK: I completely lost network connection to the HR21 since the last time I tried to use it...

    directv2pc

I am running windows xp/sp2 on Sun's virtualbox virtual machine manager on a LINUX operating system. Directv2pc installed without any problem; I have an HR21 DVR; I can ping the DVR from XP, but directv2pc cannot find the DVR. Any suggestions? Gary

    Poor hd reception

Thanks for all the info and comments; Directv "escalated" my problem. I was visited by one of the more knowledgeable techs this morning, and the HD reception acted up for him (we have a winter weather advisory in effect, and it is in the low 30'sw). After checking all of the connectors and...

Temperature issue with an LNB One more question and I'll let you all alone. On the day I checked signal strengths mid afternoon and again late at night, It was a warn sunny day (mid 60's), (the antenna takes direct sunlight in the afternoon). Late evening the temp had dropped into the low...

    Poor hd reception

@Jimbo Does not look like it. By one of those special Hi-def cables @Zynergi I had some issues with the HR21, so was using one of the D12's in its place for about a week and a half. The tech couldn't find anything wrong with the hr21 when re-attached it...

    Poor hd reception

Thankyou all for the info and suggestions. @Jimbo I'll take a look at the connectors later today to see if they were replaced. ---- Any way to tell which satellite and transponders The Hi Def signals of the local stations are on (ie channels 3, 5, 8 in the cleveland ohio service...

    Poor hd reception

Thanks, for the reply, Chip; Replacing the cable is not an option. I'm not up to tearing up the woodwork and paneling necessary to get a new line in. A few of the HD channels are watchable; That leads me to believe that the problem is signal strength. The question is whether the signal...

    Poor hd reception

Thank you mental1; I just took another look at the installation; The last tech that came out last Monday, made some significant changes in the wiring at the dish (I was not home; my son was here with him). It now looks like what you describe . There are two dual lines running from the dish...
