Dish Network Install Story - Curses!!!

I talked to a neighbor last night. He said he and his son installed their own dish in about 45 minutes. I think I could have done it, as well. I've got to run a proper grounding strap soon, anyway. I might even try moving mine up onto the roof at some point since they already put in the screws, etc.

Is My View on DirecTV vs Dish Valid?

This is one of those issues I keep seeing widely different views on. One person says DirecTV is much better. The next says they're equal. And the next says Dish is better. I did think about DirecTV because of this concern, but I kept getting almost as many saying the opposite -- so I gave up. It...

Dish Network Install Story - Curses!!!

It's not connected to a ground point, ground block or any rod. All they did was screw the connector to the foundation cinderblocks. Also, when the first installers were trying to get a signal, the one guy was standing directly in front of the dish while he was on the ladder swinging it back...

Dish Network Install Story - Curses!!!

Speaking of grounding, if they attached it to the foundation of the house, is that enough? I think I need to drive a typical grounding rod and reattach... yes?

Dish Network Install Story - Curses!!!

Oh, yeah! I didn't mention my discussion concerning where South was -- and why I did NOT have to have the dish pointing due South. One comment told it all when the first Installer was on the roof. The second guy is on the ground and shouts up at him "Do you see the shadows of leaves from the...

Is My View on DirecTV vs Dish Valid?

Yes, AT60 or higher. Another plus is with the AT180 you do not pay for either the DVR or the second receiver fee (I forget which one was "free"). That's about $60 in savings. On the "rented vs free equipment" argument, I guess my statement wasn't clear enough. I did not like the "up-front"...

Is My View on DirecTV vs Dish Valid?

Not if you go with HDTV. HDTV adds in the commitment. The non-commit is only good for the basic plan.

Dish Network Install Story - Curses!!!

Come to think of it, there were a few "Nyuck-nyuck"s! I thought I was having dejavu when the second crew arrived two days later and the first guy starts trying to put the post in the ground with his hands. Then he gets out the cinderblock to use it as a hammer. I asked why they used that and...

Stupid 811 Question -- DVI to Component Cable?

My Mitsubishi 55" has DTV hookups, plus separate Component hookups. The DTV area uses YPbPr connections, as does the Component. No DVI. The 811 has DVI out. The installers hooked up YPbPr from the 811 to the DTV section. There is no DVI cable in the box, apparently. Is there such a thing...

Dish Network Install Story - Curses!!!

The first guy came in a rented van and was wearing a Dish t-shirt. The next guy came in a Dish van, wearing the same t-shirt. I assume they were with the same company. The second two guys arrived in a Dish van wearing Dish polo golf shirts and immediately made a firm commitment to me that they'd...

Is My View on DirecTV vs Dish Valid?

Wow! Lots of good responses here. I went through my list a second time and when I compared my choices with DirecTV and Dish's 180 package, I ended up choosing Dish. I just could not see paying for the equipment. This will give me a year to get my toes wet, so to speak. Then I can switch...

Dish Network Install Story - Curses!!!

After 50+ years of no Cable TV of any kind, I decided to buy a High Definition TV two years ago. Waited a full two years before I decided to spend money on -- of all things -- TELEVISION. I tried to get VOOM -- installer said trees were in the way in every spot in my yard. Bummer! :no...

Is My View on DirecTV vs Dish Valid?

I ordered VOOM for my 55" Mitsubishi HDTV -- can't get it because of no line of sight. I think I can get either DirecTV or Dish. Went back through my comparison lists and came up with the following Observations, and nagging Questions... Observations... a) The Program Offers based on Packages...

    Voom AND Dish -- Together?

That's a good point. I looked at the list, again, and there are none under normal VOOM other than the ten stations of HD Cinema -- which seem to be getting mixed reviews. And that must be the Catch-22 (I knew there had to be one)! Unless "Epics" counts. With VaVaVOOM you get Cinemax, Encore...

    Voom AND Dish -- Together?

That might be a good point. My Mitsubishi is 55". Are you saying the Dish offerings -- not HD -- will be disappointing? Mine can receive pretty much every resolution up to 1080i. In anticipation of my Voom installation, do I need to order or locate anything specific -- such as special cables...
