D does install refurbished units. I'm a new customer as of yesterday and 2 of the 3 receivers were refurbished units. On the warranty thing, the installer told me not to get the plan, and if a receiver starts acting up or quits, call them and add the plan and order service the same day.

Go outside or attic with an exterior antenna, I use a UHF from Radio Shack, $24, and pick up the tower from 50+ miles. I was able to only get a 75% CBS signal with the set top antennas. The exterior antenna is 98%+ on all networks.
