    NOAAPort on Ku

This is slightly off topic for a satellite board, but isn't the NOAA stuff also on shortwave? I remember the "black cat" software for mac's that could do this from just a shortwave->line in connection, no special software or hardware (other than shortwave radio) required. Sorry, just a thought!

    How is "The Tube"?

Neat mix of videos, part of me wishes they had some "blocks" setup, 80's at 8:00, 90's at 9:00, but other times I enjoy the shuffle. WUAB here in Cleveland gives it the shaft on bandwidth though. Some newer videos look decent, but if there is flashing lights/colors, or the older videos, it...

Those Who Have Switched From DTV to Dish: Any Regrets?

I have a Dish 322 with a SA Tivo 1. The Tivo has lived through cable (awful service), DirecTV (expensive for what I got), and a post boom Voom box for OTA. The Dish 322 has a few quirks I had to get used to, but after I hammered it out, it's been pretty smooth sailing. I may be cheap, but the...

Could Channel 1 be a new source?

The dishes are fiberglass KU band, there really isn't a mount on the back of those things. I guess you could drill through one though! The receiver is a huge metal box with a VCR inside of it. The metal "exoskeleton" frame is held down with cinder blocks. A welder could have fun with the...

    FTA internet access?

Without special equipment on your dish, your connection is receive only. You'd have to have dial up to send your requests out to the internet, then receive them on the dish. WildBlue has the cheapest plans I've seen for two way data from a dish. http://www.wildblue.com SkIP doesn't look...

    Demand for FTA equipment

Also, (correct me if wrong) the fee to license FTA technology is mininal. There would be a small fee for MPEG-2 decoding (memory tells me it's around $1) and DVB decoding (again, memory tells me it's $0.20). A few FTA boxes use more PC style parts running Linux. PowerPC is a popular processor...

Newbie with a simple question (CNBC Europe availability)

CNBC HQ postal address is in the US, that's why it's listed as being available. For example, Disney, E!, and Cartoon Network Europe were previosly listed in lyngsat as FTA for US, but their beams were Korea and Europe.

    New DISH EQ w/ FTA?

Iceberg, Looks like it's a DPP LNB. There is a single wire that goes to a DPP separator, then it goes to the two inputs on the receiver. io_addict, thanks for the tip! Looks like I have some playing around to do this weekend! Interestingly enough, they put a diplexer before the splitter, and...

    New DISH EQ w/ FTA?

The Fortec 786 works with the universal LNBs. You have to specify the LO frequencies by hand, so I certainly could use these frequencies. It then uses a 22Hz tone to tell the LNB to flip between the frequencies. I'm not sure how the DishPRO LNB "flips" between these frequencies. I'm hoping that...

    New DISH EQ w/ FTA?

Here's a quick run down of the situation (I don't want to make it seem like I'm trying to "hack" my system) I have a 90cm Fortec Star dish up, With a FS Univeral KU LNB. Local Phone company offered a DSL/DISH Network/Local+Long distance bundle. With the bundle they gave, It was like...

    OTA Ant input please.

What about getting stacking two antennas on the same mast? If it's unamplified, it should be an (almost) simple matter of getting a combiner mounted on the mast. Then make sure your cable runs are identical to each antenna. The antennas will need a fair amount of difference between the...
