    2-year commitment

    1. Yes 2. Yes 3. Yes Yes, the time with the R-10 is actually ADDED ON to the one-year agreement I had (and understood about in advance) with the HDR 10-250. I paid $200 for it at Best Buy. No rebate. It seemed like I bought a piece of hardware that I could just use or not use as I saw...

    2-year commitment

About a month ago I bought an onsale D-10 (or whatever the non-DVR Directv HD receiver is called. Like my 10-250 DVR I've had for several months, I bought it at Best Buy. I installed it myself, and called Directv, and got it turned on. Now I've just gotten a card titled "A Friendly...

    Trying to avoid CSR difficulties

I buy my old parents in another town Dish Network each year, and I have for years. It's in their name. My brother lives in the basement with them to help out, and is on the same subscription, but he has a separate life. All told, they have 3 Dish receivers in the house. I have just...

    Starchoice DSR505HD

Dsr-500/505 As I understand it, the 505 is a rebranded Voom receiver with DVI out. When I had Voom--and this is just for what it's costing you to read, which is nothing--I always used component cables because the DVI was way too dark. Might have been just my receiver, but I seem to remember...

    Starchoice DSR500

what is the current version? If you go through the system setup menu you'll eventually see a screen that will give you current version and target version of software. The current version should END in xxxx.78 (78 is the extension) and the target version should be 0 or none.

    Sunday Ticket

I have SC and it is not clear to me that SC will broadcast Sunday Ticket in HD at all. The current channels reserved for ST are SD, and SC is in bandwidth trouble right now because of the CRTC ruling. Last year Bell broadcast Sunday Ticket in HD. Starchoice didn't (somebody please correct...

    Starchoice - the right choice?

[In 27 days who knows what the line up will be except each American service will be 24/7: 289 will be PBS Detroit US HD nets from Detroit/Buffalo will be there, Seattle - they haven't said yet. Can I ask whether we know for sure that there will continue to be Eastern time zone HD US...

Can I get Distant Network HD or Not?

No HD Locals I have DirecTV in an area that has OTA NBC and CBS (though nobody I know can get the CBS). We can't get Fox or ABC OTA so DirecTV sells me the national HD feeds for those. The local NBC and CBS stations don't broadcast in HD and won't for a long time. Does that mean I could get...

    MPeg-4 war--a shame since voom's the winner

Weekly Award Nothing personal--but what the hell are you talking about? Bulgaria? Moldova? Bolivia? In a world of nonsensical postings, yours is this week's winner.

Starz Edge is now available on 269

Encore HD It has been some time since the demise of the Encore HD feeds was announced. It has also been said that they will "return if demand warrants it."

    HDMI and DVI

hdmi audio I would make sure the plug actually does anything other than operate the Samsung TV speakers (which is exactly what the "special" HDMI audio plug on the Mitsubishi DLP TV does) if I wanted to enjoy DD 5.1, etc.

No! Voom Reception in the Rain !!!

I'm on the Central Coast and the first rain of the season my Voom went down. I called, and they approved and installed the 24" right away. I haven't had problems since, but we haven't had a driving storm. Pretty steady rain, the signal keeps coming in.
