Since we can't seem to get a definite date on when the Voom DVR will be released, I've been thinking about picking up one of the cheaper Tivo boxes to tide me over until that time. I realize it doesn't record in HD. Would I be wasting my money? How does the Tivo program guide work with Voom?

Is it necessary to get one of the thin clients if you're only connecting one TV and don't care about the whole house networking thing?

Looks like your first bill is a month of service after the fact and your second bill is for a month of service in advance. You can probably expect to be charged around the 15th of every month from now on. This is all just assumption on my part, but it seems logical.

And I thought the picture quality on the HD channels was pretty good too, until I got Voom. I can't understand why people complain about Voom's picture quality. Maybe I just haven't seen what HD is capable of?

Regardless of what the numbers say, I get a great picture (better than my cable service anyway) so I'm not complaining. All I need now is the PVR that's supposedly just around the corner. I already have one for cable (Scientific Atlanta 8000HD).

For the record, I'm on the West Coast and I get great reception - 95 on satellite and 99 OTA. I think a lot depends on the geographic features of the area you live in. I've had very few problems with my box other that a few usability gripes. I also have the best of both worlds as I subscribe...

Voom may not be better than the other satellite services for HD picture quality, but they definitely beat out my cable service (though not by much).
