In Memorium: Rich ( Anole) Steincross Has Passed Away. May He Rest in Peace

You're welcome! Keith and I talked after I found out, and we decided that we needed to let everyone here know what had happened.

In Memorium: Rich ( Anole) Steincross Has Passed Away. May He Rest in Peace

Just logged in to let everyone know that our friend Anole has passed away on November 21stc 2014. Anole and I have been friends since I first joined this forum in 2006. He helped me to solder a capacitor on the PCB of a Pansat 3500 I had, and we ended up in a phone conversation during the...

    I must be nuts

That's the only kind I have ever worked on. :) Started doing that when I was 40. We'll be thinking of you and praying for a successful surgery.

Do You Use Any Diseqc 1.1 Switches? You Should Be.

I was just trying to count them up in my head Brent, but IIRC, I think I had 36 at the peak of my system. :) That was only using 5 ports on the Digiwave 8x1 switch, and I had those 36 running to 3 different receivers, so figure that system times 3 for coax runs.

    Pendragon vs. the Birdview

The following is for those of us who didn't have to learn the Metric system in school. :) "I spent a LOT of time tweaking the focal point and the taper. At the moment my best overall setting has the front of the scalar rings" 40.5511 inches "from the dish center and the dual ortho feed mouth...

    Pendragon vs. the Birdview

Reflectivity is the same whether light or microwaves. The point is to find the focal point of that reflectivity, and yes, you would have to re-aim the dish at the arc again, but you would have the precise focal point to set the scalar. If you want to do the research, I did prove the focal...

HDHomerun, DVBViewer Clear QAM and OTA

Here's the answer to the Totalmedia question from Silicon Dust's website. If they are going to provide it for some, they should provide it for all. Of course, that is just my opinion.

HDHomerun, DVBViewer Clear QAM and OTA

Don't be concerned about hi-jacking the thread, as long as the questions can get answered. :) Have you tried the Totalmedia Program that comes with the HDHomerun? It does work pretty well as much as I have used it. Finds all the channels ok, can use both tuners if you have the dual tuner...

HDHomerun, DVBViewer Clear QAM and OTA

Oh yes, the experimenting never seems to stop. As far as posting, I am always reading, and have posted recently in a thread or two that caught my attention. I've got my eye on a 1.2 M off-set dish that I know of, and I want to let a few months pass by with just my 100 foot long short wave...

HDHomerun, DVBViewer Clear QAM and OTA

I did finally got both the OTA and the QAM tuners to work with them being set to "normal" in the hardware settings, and can switch back and forth between channels without problems. I also discovered that if you want the OTA EPG to work properly, you must tick the "open whole transponder" option...

HDHomerun, DVBViewer Clear QAM and OTA

Since I have moved, I have not had a satellite dish to play with, so I turned my hobbies to SW and getting what TV I can get "free" of course. :) I put up my new postage stamp size OTA antenna for receiving all the local channels in HD. It's not very big, and I am 25 -30 miles away...

    Adventures in Satellite Hunting.....30°W

Just looked on the calendar at Sept 23rd. That is the Autumnal Equinox. If you get up at sunrise, and watch the sun come up over your trees that day, you will see the exact spot where the Clarke belt and all the satellites are, including Hispasat. At 8.5 degrees of elevation, you will only have...

    Birdview motor and pole questions

I saved the poles from ground level up on the ones I retrieved. But then, I was going to attach them to NPRMs for my roof. But you are correct, the upper part with the plate in the pole for bolting the cap on is essential. :)

    Birdview motor and pole questions

I had no problems getting Hispasat at 30W with my Birdviews using the H-H mount that came with it, and there was still room to travel. I am at 90.7W with 91W being my TSS. The dish wouldn't flop, but you do have to be careful as Phlatwound said above, the rack gear will dig into the back of the...

    Adventures in Satellite Hunting.....30°W

You haven't failed! You simply have not finished the job yet. :) Check everything. Make sure you can pull in signals on another satellite with that LNBF and the settings in the receiver. Next widen the search pattern. Swing the dish 45 degrees from your center mark if you have to, but do it...
