New surround problem - cheap solution

I recently purchased an Onkyo HT-RC430 to replace my old RCA system. I love the system, but I didn't read the fine print when I purchased it. It uses a powered subwoofer, and my old system had a passive sub. I was dismayed to learn that even the cheapest powered subs cost almost as much as...

    Sharp Aquos and 5.1 Surround

I never could get everything to sync up. Even running composite through the surround amp to the TV. I finally gave up and found an Onkyo HT-RC430 on sale for $148 through Amazon with free shipping. I've read good reviews on this device, and it has an Audio Return Channel HDMI Port so it...

    Sharp Aquos and 5.1 Surround

Thanks for all the ideas and help. I'll continue to tinker around and see what I can do. The system worked perfect with my old analog tv. I have a sneaking suspicion that if I turn off all the processing features on the tv in user mode, I may reduce the delay enough to compensate for the...

    Sharp Aquos and 5.1 Surround

I held off on trying this because the video inputs/outputs on the surround are composite only, but when I tried it I got the same result. The audio from the surround speakers are about a half second ahead of the video. The video processing must take a really long time on this TV.

    Sharp Aquos and 5.1 Surround

I really thought that running component outputs to the TV and TOSlink to the surround would work, but it has the same video delay as before. Apparently, regardless of whether I use HDMI, component, or composite I still get the video delay and the audio is out of sync too much for my surround...

    Sharp Aquos and 5.1 Surround

Sorry, I misread the instruction manual. What I was referring to was an HDMI port with an audio return channel. I don't think it will work with this device. I'll try the component and optical approach above to see what happens.

    Sharp Aquos and 5.1 Surround

After digging some more I think that I may have a $40 solution. ViewHD makes a HDMI to HDMI + SPDIF(PCM 5.1) converter/extractor. Since the HDMI out on the back of the TV should have the Video and Audio in sync, I should be able to split this with the converter and run it to the input on the...

    Sharp Aquos and 5.1 Surround

Last year I got a new Aquos 55 inch HDTV to replace my old set. At the time I didn't have room to reconnect my RCA RT2360 surround amplifier. This year I got a new media cabinet, and I decided to reconnect my surround system. I was dismayed that the TOSLink output on the TV only outputs Pro...

    Sub Channels

I am one of those unfortunate people that can't get OTA (or not much). Thanks to the folks on the OTA forum I was able to get one local CBS channel (although it isn't one of my Dish Locals) that is about 19 miles away with no subchannels. It took a whopper of a VHF antenna and a good pre-amp...

    Sub Channels

Does anyone know (or care to make a guess) as to whether Dish will ever offer sub-channels for customer's locals? The reason I ask is that we recently got one CW sub channel through Dish. I am too far away from my local providers to get any OTA reception, and I still don't get any MyTV...

    Signal Loss Issue

You guys were exactly right. The day after my last post the LNB went kaput. I hooked my cables into an old Dish 500 dish that I previously had so I could have some TV, and called my local installer. They said that with the storms it would be about a week before they could come out (we just...

    Signal Loss Issue

I have straight runs to both receivers - no switches. I did a test on both receivers. The 722 status was "Good". The 222 said "LNB Drift Detected" - 0x1c, 0xa4, 72(e-13). I unplugged/replugged both systems and ran check switch. The status of both receivers was the same as before with the...

    Signal Loss Issue

Thanks! I found the test you were talking about. It does indeed say that I have LNB Drift. What exactly does that mean?

Are you talking about the switch test? I'll check it when I get home from work.

    Signal Loss Issue

I do; and I experienced this problem earlier on, and learned to switch between two satellite channels to fix the problem. This problem is very similar, but it happens when switching between satellite channels; usually 61.5 and 72. No I haven't tested the system since it seems to work...
