Actually I would say it's more probable that it is a power supply issue I've noticed on mine that I'm getting weak LNB spikes from time to time with no weather issues, so I'm pretty sure that my Hopper is have problems supporting the LNB's. It's more likely that the power supply is fluctuating...

The codes are in the Menu System Setup/Remote Control, just follow the instructions and all should go well. With off brand TV's I've used other off brand codes in order to get my TV to work. It's a lot of screwing around but has worked out for me.

Definately TVersity, Windows MediaPlayer will sort of work but not well.

You really don't need either connections unless you use the somewhat new OnDemand. PPV can be done from DirecTV.com via user account with your PC which is free or by the calling them directly which costs $1.50 I think. I don't use my phone lines for their boxes and haven't for over a decade.
