    WHY?

Not really. They're delivered via satellite and it could even be done with no additional equipment at most TV stations. However it won't be done because of retrans fees and agreements with cable providers. I believe one market had (has?) either FBN or FNC over the air.

C31 won't turn off, blue light remains on

One of my C31s is not turning off. Well sort of. I push power off on the remote or press the blue DirecTV button on the unit itself. The video turns off, blue screen but the unit seems to lock straight up and nothing I do short of the reset button or powercycle works. Defective unit? Or...

I had no idea you were a ham, Scott! I would have really liked to go but stopped going since 2009.

Undocumented DirecTV Installer Allegedly Stole Customer's Bulldog Pup

They hire contractors, don't they? The installer that came to my house and did a crappy job barely spoke a word of English and just basically had receivers, dishes and other gear strewn carelessly all over his mini van. I made sure I followed him everywhere. I don't trust anyone in my house.

    Directv Cinema Connection, etc..

The HR34 has an ethernet port. You don't "need" the CCK. You have wired ethernet ports on your router, right?

    directv users

I only have one regret and that is that I owned my own media center setup with the cable provider. So that is sorta money down the drain. But having TV when power is out (and I'm running on the generator) is worth it. Price wise it's a wash.

Did I get a good deal?

That's not the best deal you can get. I got a genie and 3 clients, did the costco and referral deal. With that I paid nothing up front and got a $200 costco gift card, plus an additional $10 per month off for 10 months. I can't offer you a referral here (against forum rules) but if you...

Going back to DirecTV, HR34, RVU smart TV and more

It's 10 grand or thereabouts. That's mind boggling and I think only someone who has a luxury yacht would be buying such an antenna. And you can't even get locals with that setup on a boat.

Going back to DirecTV, HR34, RVU smart TV and more

Also I used the costco and referral offers so I got a good deal for the first 10 months or so.

Going back to DirecTV, HR34, RVU smart TV and more

Just an update to close the loop on this one. I got my DirecTV installed. I got a HR34 (genie) and I used the DirecTV coax networking but I got the Pace C31 clients (3 of them). The installer put a BB DECA to connect to my home network and internet. He did the cabling for that pretty sloppy but...

Going back to DirecTV, HR34, RVU smart TV and more

I hate the idea of using MoCA. I already have Cat6 throughout the house. It would be one less coax to connect, and theoretically I can move the TV elsewhere when needed. No, we'll be getting the Tracvision receiver for the RV. From what I understand, Tracvision uses GPS to determine whether...

Going back to DirecTV, HR34, RVU smart TV and more

Hi everyone! I've been around here a while but dropped off pretty much since I canceled DirecTV in 2006 and went with cable. Now after Hurricane Sandy killed cable while the power was out I am reconsidering DirecTV due to power outage reliability. I also use Windows Media Center and...

    Needing a good amp

I use an antennacraft 10G212 for my 200ft cable run up the tower and to the house. Works pretty well, even better than the Channel Master 7777. 30dB gain, adjustable. You can't go wrong!
