Yes there is a Joey, it is lightly used so yes it is in standby. It reboots itself nightly about 1AM which effectively puts it in standby regardless. It is at version S397.

Hello Mark, The UI is the same as it always has been since I got the hopper several years ago. Why would I not be receiving the updates? Is there a way to manually trigger a software update?

I have a Hopper with Sling (original version). According to the system info screen the last software update occurred 7/1/2016 and the software version is listed as S531. The system reboots nightly at about 1:30 and after the reboot the screensaver shows a message that S531 is up to date...

There is only one hopper and one joey linked to it. The joey is always off at night. I rarely have recordings at night either. Often I am up when it decides to do it's reboot at 1:30ish AM every day. Usually I let it do it's thing. It always reboots, then downloads the guide with a message...

No, It reboots itself every day, I suppose I could try that. Hard to say if it would make any difference.

Seeing this issue on Hopper w/sling, not H3. Icons went away a week ago and still won't return. Also broke every timer, had to recreate them all from scratch to get anything to record. Dish doesn't seem to care and apparently will not solve this.

Depending on where you are that may be completely normal. In Alaska and probably Hawaii 129 will never be green because only 5 transponders (a different 5 for AK and HI) are usable. I think those same 10 transponders are also unusable in the ConUS, but perhaps dish has programmed the system to...

There is a bug, resume does not show up in the popup menu unless you are in Folders-By-Title. It will work by pressing 'play' in all cases.
