As I am aware, the IP output on the Arris is multicast HEVC passthrough only. You assign a 224.x.x.x multicast address and UDP port. Your recorder would need to point toward this address+port pair. Everyone else's mileage may vary.

What you are suggesting would require an internal OTA tuner. That would mean every Hopper would have an OTA tuner. The majority of subscribers do not have OTA antennas so that internal tuner is a waste of equipment for most. That translates to expense for little need.

It would have been nice if they kept the antenna a standard coax connection without the need for a stupid usb dongle like it was on the older boxes...

Probably not much help but zipping thru the dsr-7400 HD series op manual it looks like the gige port is industry standard and can be configured to send a ts stream. I don't know. Have you gone through the gige menu to see if an output selection (asi, .ts) is available?
