Dish Boxes Better?

I can't speak for the HD side of things, but I totally agree with the buggy Dish hardware / software comments. I recently switched back from E* to D* when I found some good deals on s2 dtivos. The real problem with Dish isn't so much their hardware but their software updates. They're...

    Help with 72.5 locals

I found the first post in each of these two threads to be extremely helpful. Thankfully I was lucky enough to hit both sats on the first try with minimal cussing involved. ;) http://www.satelliteguys.us/showthread.php?t=20327 http://www.satelliteguys.us/showthread.php?t=59404 Also, I think...

    TiVo secret features???

I don't think it's possible to quiet only the skip button sounds. You can turn them off completely, which IMO should be the default. Settings>Audio>Sound Effects

What do I need and how to do it?

...would work with the 72.5 LNB connected to one of the Line B (110 / 119) ports, so I'm totally confused on this. I was planning on taking down my E* superdish and putting my 101 dish up on that mount on a saturday, so I'd really like to have all the parts I need ahead of time so I don't end...

What do I need and how to do it?

The freebee switch my friend gave me is a Dynex DX-MS101. It's labeled a 5x8, but it only has four sat inputs. Of those, two are labeled for the 101 sat - 13v/18v 0hz, and the other two are labeled for 110/119 - 13v/18v 22khz. It doesn't appear to have any inputs labeled 'flex'. Will this...

    L2.92 on dvr 522

2.92 is still in a partial phase, meaning that it's not targeted for ever receiver yet. If you have updates enabled and your receiver is rebooting every night then your receiver ID hasn't been targeted for it yet. If this is the case there's nothing you can do but wait.

What do I need and how to do it?

Sweet, thanks for your help! Had I followed everyone else's advice I'd have just dropped a benjy for a phase III. As luck would have it, I just happen to have a friend with an extra 5x8 that thinks he owes me a favor, so problem solved. :)

What do I need and how to do it?

I've asked two other installers in addition to asking on the forum at D*'s site, and you're the first not to say I need a phase III because of the Tivos. So I can just plop my old dual (output, single) LNB dish up pointing at 101 & another single at 72.5, add a 5x8 and I'm good to go?

What do I need and how to do it?

Ok, since I'm in a similar boat can I get your advice on this one? Columbia, MO DMA (72.5) 4 x Hughes SD-DVR40 (8 ports total) Will I need 101, 110 & 72.5 or just 101 & 72.5? Can I use any old 18" D* single LNB dish for my 72.5? What switch will accomodate this configuration?

EPG Data Errors - A Growing Problem???

I had long wondered why they decided to put that hideous red blotch on my screen. I trust Tivo will provide them with better looking graphics when their lawyers are done with E*.

EPG Data Errors - A Growing Problem???

Just wanted to resurrect this thread http://www.satelliteguys.us/showthread.php?t=59359 under a new title and solicit comments on the subject since over the weekend my wife nearly bit my head off because the guide was showing a new episode of 'Team Sanchez' and that definitely wasn't what got...

    L2.92 enables PocketDish!!!!!

Ah, ok. Depending on where the 0s are, it may or may not matter. If within the allocated partition area, then it really wouldn't matter. Applications can't write data there without following the rules of the filesystem, because if they do when you plug the drive into your PC and write files...

    L2.92 enables PocketDish!!!!!

My apologies - I was simply irritated by reading what I thought was another "me too" post with no technical substance beyond the painfully obvious. It makes sense now taken in context with the post you were replying to. I think you are confusing compression with partition resizing. I think...

    L2.92 enables PocketDish!!!!!

You think? And all that time I thought I was talking just to hear my head rattle. There are a myriad of possibilities. It could be looking for data in unused sectors on the disk, hidden file(s), a very specific file + folder structure, specifically sized / placed partition(s), a particular...

    L2.92 enables PocketDish!!!!!

If the drive appears as just another drive to windows when connected via USB, why would one need to take the unit apart?

    L2.92 enables PocketDish!!!!!

A working image (i.e. Ghost) of a PD drive would be the easiest way to make progress on this.

    522 program Guide queston?

Although I cannot confirm your report, I noticed another guide data anomaly about a month ago. Cartoon Network swapped Futurama and Family Guy timeslots a while back, and the Dish / TV guide data was still showing the wrong data as late as last thursday. I'm not too worried about it since I...

    L2.92 enables PocketDish!!!!!

Because the recordings on the 522/625 are stored unencrypted I highly doubt that just any USB>IDE bridge will work, but that's just speculation. Does anyone have technical specs on a PD's USB bridge chip? Taken the drive out of one and examined it? What filesystem was on your external drive?

    L2.92 out for 625/522

Just FYI, the final stage of firmware installation is a soft reset so the receiver boots the new firmware.

    L2.92 out for 625/522

I wonder if 2.92 had anything to do with the severe frame tears and audio skips I noticed this morning. Hoping it was just the weather.

    522 / 625 Demodulators - we're cookin' with gas!

If you were to put a fan in the bottom of the chassis it would have to be external, and I don't think I'd want to do that except as a last resort. The standoffs the board mounts to are relatively short, and I don't think I've ever seen a cooling fan (much less a decent ball bearing one) that...

    522 / 625 Demodulators - we're cookin' with gas!

I think it would be best not to modify the case if at all possible. Sinking the board to the case bottom would be the least invasive method to accomplish this.

    522 / 625 Demodulators - we're cookin' with gas!

You'd want to use a dielectric strip where it made contact with the PCB.

    522 / 625 Demodulators - we're cookin' with gas!

After giving this some thought, maybe the best way to effectively cool these guys is to sink the bottom of the board to the chassis with a couple slugs of aluminum and some heatsink grease. It's less than optimal, but Thompson does it in some of it's DBS receivers.
