    Dish review

Necessity is the Mother of invention. Note the use of a miscellaneous bracket, piece of thin rock, support cord and cable ties to position my C-band LNBF just in the sweet spot of the dish focus. And I can swap between this LNBF and my Ku LNB quite quickly when I wish. And check out this...

    DVB-S2X / DVB-S2 Minimum C/N Lock Calculator

I just used the DVB-S2 calculator to check out a current Ku signal on 99W. Parameters are: DVB standard / modulation: DVB-S2 16APSK FEC: 3/4 Symbol rate: 5000 Minimum C/N lock calculates as 10.2 dB. I am receiving 11.1 dB yet the received video is unstable and unwatchable. Normally an 11.1 dB...

    Survivor 46

Ah..but my online research indicates many believe it IS against the rules in past anyway. Probst has stated as such on the air in past. There have been examples of verbally helping others but never of physically helping others. I sense a lawsuit coming from Maria. She would be within her rights...

    Survivor 46

I need to consult with experts on Survivor here. I don't understand why the rules allowed, during the INDIVIDUAL Immunity Challenge, for Liz to stop her puzzle-making task and go back to the start of the challenge to get Kenzie's board so Kenzie could get a correct count of holes. This action...

Too Late To Join the C-Band Game?

Can you financially justify? Probably not. Now it's all about the passion of wanting to experiment and receive satellite signals. It's a hobby. Trying to financially justify hobbies is a losing game. ADDED: Over at Rick's, somebody is offering for FREE a beautiful set of dishes and equipment...

    DVB-S2X / DVB-S2 Minimum C/N Lock Calculator

I've read that the ABC feeds use 4.2.2 chroma subsampling. No consumer satellite receiver can receive this. Using an Edision, you need to feed the signal using its web interface into something like PotPlayer or VLC running on your PC. Then you can watch the video on your PC.

    DVB-S2X / DVB-S2 Minimum C/N Lock Calculator

You need a receiver that measures and reports signal quality in dB such as the Edision series. Many receivers report signal quality only using a % value.

    DVB-S2X / DVB-S2 Minimum C/N Lock Calculator

There's no single answer to your question. It depends. It depends on the parameters of the signal you are trying to receive. As the calculator shows, factors that affect your received signal include the DVB standard, type of modulation, the FEC value and the symbol rate. You need a big enough...

    Multiple LMB options

CN has a good question. Multiple LNBs are only normally required on a fixed dish. One exception might be if you want to have both C-band and Ku-band LNBs on the same motorized dish (see photo below). I find in practice it's best just to change out the C-band and Ku-band LNBs so you can receive...

    DVB-S2X / DVB-S2 Minimum C/N Lock Calculator

When I read on Rick's that ABC has started changing their modulation and coding formats, I was wondering how big a dish is needed to receive a DVB-S2X, a DVB-S2 or a DVB-S signal. These calculators will help figure that out by showing minimum C/N lock values required for many types of satellite...

Seeking Advice on Installing FTA Satellite Dish for International Programming in RV

Poor phrasing on my part. I meant the smaller the dish that you use, the lower the S/N that will result for the signal that you receive.

    Getting the Azimuth

I like the apps called SatFinder Lite and Satellite Director on my phone. The first uses augmented reality to allow you hold your smartphone to the sky and "see" the satellite arc on your phone. Again, these free apps aren't the most accurate but they give a sense of what satellite you can receive.

Seeking Advice on Installing FTA Satellite Dish for International Programming in RV

There is good advice in the posts above in this thread. You can try any dish you wish. The smaller the dish you use, the weaker the signal you will receive. Also for Ku-band especially, what works acceptably on a sunny day may not deliver an acceptable S/N ratio on a rainy day.

    Getting the Azimuth

All of the above. I use free downloadable apps on my Android smartphone which I search for in the Play store. But they are notoriously inaccurate. So you need to cross-check results across several different tools. A good old physical compass is useful for azimuth too. Remember to understand the...

    Edision SES-2 87.1W reception

You will get some replies if you do the following: 1. Create a new thread of your own. 2. Summarize the equipment you have. 3. State your approximate location. 4. Explain what you have done so far to try to receive satellites. 5. State what you are trying to receive. 6. Include some photos of...

One week til the Eurovision Song Contest

Was going to compare BVN with RTPI now. But it's not playing on RTPI on 97W. The video there is 544x480 (2.7 Mbps). Whereas BVN on 117W is playing Eurovision now with 720x480 (3.1 Mbps).

You can install multiple LNBs on a fixed dish to receive more than one satellite. Take a look at the descriptions and photos in this thread.

    Dish review

My first choice would be 99W. Lots of PBS and news feeds. But I'd quickly add a second LNB beside the one at the focus to catch 103W at the same time. 103W has a huge selection of commercial-free music channels if you can manually add audio PIDs or use an editor to do so. Check Lyngsat. We play...

    Dish review

Beautuful! It has no rust either. Mine has lots. I bet you can even read the scales on the bracket. It should be easy to line up to a satellite. Which satellite will you go for? But it looks lonely with no motor.

    Dish review

It looks like a conventional 39" dish. Quality appears reasonable. It has support arms for the LNB arm which is good. You should get good results from this size of dish. Will it be a fixed dish or do you plan to install a motor with it?
