So how best to order dtv?

Alright, you're using this as a reference. I think I understand where you're coming from now... The box in the diagram that the OTA antenna plugs into is the SWM8 switch I was talking about. Nowadays, if you get a SWM installation, you won't get one of those. DirecTV won't install a SWM8 in...

So how best to order dtv?

BTW, somebody correct me if I'm wrong on the SWM8 necessity. The last time I tried running OTA on a single line with two SWM diplexers, I was dropping transponders and had to run a SWM8 to make it work. That's been at least 6 months, so there may be a new diplexer out now.

So how best to order dtv?

The equipment you get when you order is pre-determined. In my area, if you order HD, you get SWM. The standard SWM setup that is installed now includes a SWM LNB, which means the switch is built into the dish. In order to get OTA with that setup, you'd need a dedicated line for the OTA...

WildBlue vs. Hughesnet - which to sell?

Okay, I don't wanna knock it until I've tried it, but I looked up some reviews on Starband and everyone seems to hate it (http://www.rateitall.com/i-891560-starband.aspx), plus it looks like before the mail in rebate it's 500 bucks up front for equipment, PLUS installation? It may be beneficial...

WildBlue vs. Hughesnet - which to sell?

We're considering offering satellite internet since we do a lot of work in rural areas and people are always asking how they can get high speed internet. I know hughesnet has been around awhile and is very popular, but wildblue is quickly gaining popularity. The problem is, it seems every...

    HR2X & R22 CE Release v.374 for the weekend of 11.6

Just got the new software. I see differences on the info screen, like "similar shows" and "cast and crew", at least I don't think I saw those before... Also, there's a rectangle that says "image not available", probably for DVD cover art.

    HD DVR Internal Temperature

Yeah, it's in a cabinet on top of the Onkyo for now. When I upgrade the TV I'm gonna get a new stand with an open front. For now it's trapped behind a glass door. I thought it was a little warm, but I'm just curious if 127 can damage it.

New to CE, will MRV work with my setup?

The magic red button. That did it! I'm stress testing it right now. I'm watching two different recorded HD programs in two different rooms, PLUS downloading OD content and recording from both tuners... I've seen a few jitters on the H23 and the DVR is SLOOOOW at the moment, but I kinda...

New to CE, will MRV work with my setup?

HR23-700 0x036F H23- 600 0x436F Network and internet both tested good on both receivers before I did anything. First did IAMANEDGECUTTER, then did MRVCLIENTON, then tried BRINGMRVBACK, and no luck. I got the location option on the H, but not the HR. Both receivers had the report option...

New to CE, will MRV work with my setup?

New to CE, will MRV work with my setup?

Ok, got the new software, did MRVCLIENTON and BRINGMRVBACK on both, still doesn't show the DVR on the H23. What am I doing wrong? Also, where do I name the DVR?

New to CE, will MRV work with my setup?

I've got an HR23 and an H23. Will the H23 view the DVR's content by the list button or does it have to be another DVR? I'm planning on forcing the download tonight when the window opens up (I'm assuming MRV is back on for this one). Everything's networked already with both receivers connected...

    HD DVR Internal Temperature

Just got an HR23-700 and I noticed it's running at 127*F, although I'm currently downloading OD content and watching a recording of Flash Forward. Is this normal? The old DVR ran about 115*F on average.

    Why can't I point a Dish 500?

You're kidding... so if I hit 80, I'm killin it? Man, that's a load off my shoulders. I thought I was gonna have to go back and re-peak all those dishes.

    Why can't I point a Dish 500?

Most of my dealers are selling more Dish than DirecTV right now (probably due to the economy), so I've started installing Dish. When I last installed them about 4 years ago, we had the superdish. Now the locals have moved from 105 to 110, so it's all Dish 500's. I had never installed one...

    Direct TV Installer was horrible

True, but no amount of wind load short of a natural disaster can put more stress on a Ka/Ku dish in 5 years than my fat ass can put on a cantilever flat panel mount in 5 seconds.

    Direct TV Installer was horrible

What the hell ever happened to customer satisfaction? I've hung 150lb flat panel tv's on cantilever mounts anchored into cinder block and done pull ups from it to show the customer the stability. I know what I'm doing, and I've never had a problem. I don't care what DirecTV or the trainers...

Hiding HD channels on the guide

Correct, as long as they have all HD receivers. Standard receivers can't see the 99/103 birds, so without a 72.5 dish, they won't get locals.

Hiding HD channels on the guide

It'll probably be awhile. I don't think they would shut down 72.5 until every subscriber that currently relies on it has been upgraded. Imagine the complaints. There are still thousands in my area with the "mickey mouse" setup (2 18's)

Hiding HD channels on the guide

I agree, it would be a simple software update, but 95% of the time HD boxes are used only for HD programming and I doubt they'll change it for the other 5%.

Hiding HD channels on the guide

free HD service does no good without HD tv's, and removing the bbands would kill the 103 which carries the locals, which is the whole reason everyone gets an HD box.

Hiding HD channels on the guide

unless there's a way to select all channels, then de-select only HD channels (with one click), that would be a royal pain in the ass.

Hiding HD channels on the guide

I work in a DMA that gets locals on 103, so everybody has a Ka/Ku and HD receivers. When a customer who doesn't subscribe to HD selects a channel, the box wants to default to the HD version of the channel resulting in service calls when the customer sees a 721 code. I hate explaining this to...
