    722 developed annoying intermittent noise

So...to do the back up thing, I have to pay $40 for the 'privilege' to do so? Ugh. And the industry wonders why bit torrent is becoming the preferred option... Eh...I'll have to decide how badly I want to watch what is on there. Honestly, it's "just TV" so can probably live without the stuff.

    722 developed annoying intermittent noise

We've had our 722 for about a year and a half. This past week it's started making a noise. The best way to describe it would be the sound of a grinding wheel on some metal, but not that loud. If the TV is loud, it's hard to hear, but at low volume or when the TV is off it's rather annoying. It...

What's with HD channels letterboxing in 4:3?

Ah, yes. Sorry for the confusion. Indeed, I meant 'windowboxed' and that movie is exactly what triggered the question. I suppose that makes sense...the source film/tape is 4:3 letterboxed. You'd think there'd be a way to decently upscale to allow a zoomed image. My $40 DVD player does a decent...

What's with HD channels letterboxing in 4:3?

This is more of a curiosity question and likely not specific to Dish: Why do some HD channels that are clearly broadcasting in full 16:9 (as you can tell from their station bug in the lower right of the screen) show 16:9 content but in the space of the 4:3 aspect ratio letterboxed? A couple of...

They won't let me have the HBO Showtime promotion...

How is everyone else paying? This isn't a physical commodity.

They won't let me have the HBO Showtime promotion...

How is $50 to $100 a month 'for nothing'? Who's freeloading? Perhaps the problem with America is we no longer can produce quality products nor back them up with any reliable service You've tried to make your point many times in this thread but appear to be completely misunderstanding the...

They won't let me have the HBO Showtime promotion...

There seem to be a lot of corporate apologists in these forums. Yes, people that pay for a service under agreed upon terms EXPECT SAID CORPORATION WHO THEY ARE PAYING MONEY TO EACH AND EVERY MONTH TO HONOR SAID AGREED UPON TERMS. But, of course, as we all learn, Dish has a contract that pretty...

    Dish Pricing Update

Dish is sure making it easy for me to decide to not renew my contract when it's up.

Can you purchase HD channels only?

You use to be able to do that. That was the Turbo HD packages. That's what originally drew me to Dish. Alas, they failed. Dish couldn't update the packages with new channels, dropped some, and people just got annoyed. In the end, they gave me a deal to switch out of it for the same price...

    Cinemax penny deal ending??

That's not a either/or concept. They are doing both. They are screwing us with the contract we signed. Legally, they are in the right. Ethically? Well, seems like they aren't winning a lot of good will or karma points.

    Cinemax penny deal ending??

Companies lying to customer seems hardly 'much ado about nothing'. I wish I could have contracts like that with my customers. Alas, I'm not in a market with only one other competitor who has equally lousy contracts. I actually have to deliver what I promise to keep clients.

    Cinemax penny deal ending??

To clarify, I'm not upset with prices going up and companies having to adjust. I'm upset with companies not providing the services they say they will when you enter into the contract. I pay for X at a price agreed to, I expect to get X for the price agreed to. I'm even more upset that they...

    Cinemax penny deal ending??

Yep. That's exactly what they do. It's not THEIR problem. It's OUR problem. Since we were the ones that signed the silly contract. Again, I'm not a CEO, but it seems that losing out a few bucks for the short would seem like a more profitable move if it meant you got to retain customers. Hell...

    Cinemax penny deal ending??

I'm not a fan of that approach. I like to think that contracts are fairly equitable for both parties. I guess Dish disagrees. AFAICT, their business model is purely "how much money can we make this month" instead of "how can we offer customer service that will allow us to retain customers which...

    Cinemax penny deal ending??

on 10/13 I went on to chat to drop programming (was finding that Platinum was beginning to be a waste of money). I was then offered the ability to switch from the no-longer-offered Turbo package to a regular package. They'd reduce the monthly rate for a year to make it inline with what I was...

    Cinemax penny deal ending??

Well, that's what I thought. And I thought that because I was TOLD that by Dish Chat Support. In fact, I was told that TWICE. And yet, as of this AM it's off. I'm now on chat being told that, sorry, we reserve the right to make programming changes at anytime so, sorry, you are SOL. *sigh*. I...

    Cinemax penny deal ending??

I just chatted with Dish (for everything I dislike about Dish, I do have to hand it to them for having a very decent chat system with decent people on the other end). According to the person I was chatting with, the deal ended 10/31. So, if one was signed up before then, they'd still get it...

    Cinemax penny deal ending??

"if it's that damned important" I think demanding parity in a contract is important. Dish contracts are basically "You pay us every month for 2 years. In exchange, we don't promise anything specific and are free to change whatever you thought you signed up for and the prices we agreed to at our...

    Default and/or reset 722 password?

I was deleting some DVR events and accidentally hit PROTECT. It's now asking me for a password to delete it. I don't recall setting one. Is there a default password? If not, is there a way to reset it some how?

Dumped Turbo and I got a deal (!?)

@purwater I had Turbo Bronze + Platinum + Locals + DVR + 1 penny Cinemax After the chat, I think I ended up with: Classic Bronze + HD/Patinum Bundle + Locals + DVR + 1 penny Cinemax (extended for another year) - $10/month for one year Which ended up being $3 less per month for me. I don't...

Dumped Turbo and I got a deal (!?)

@Hampton80 the $10/month discount is for 12 months. I assume by then the packages will all be switched around again anyways. I wouldn't call it the greatest deal ever, but I am paying a few bucks less, and got a couple extra channels.

    Why Dish Commercials are loader

It's a ploy to get you to pay the DVR fees. ;) That and we can maybe blame Billy Mays. May he RIP.

My new service with Dish Network after leaving Directv.

I switched too. For the most part, they seem pretty much the same to me. A bit shady. Price wise fairly similar. Very cryptic billing and package offerings. Rates constantly creeping up ever so slightly. But, yea, their online staff seem pretty good. I'll give them that.

Dumped Turbo and I got a deal (!?)

Good call. Will put a reminder on the calendar to check that. I did keep the transcript of the chat where he states after I asked there they'll keep me on the current contract. Not sure if that would have any sway, of course... Maybe enough people are bailing that they're easy switch people...
