    RG 59 Problem and need a pro's opinion !!

Maybe you meant another type of cable? There are few cables with only 2 db loss per 150' at 900, RG-214 would have about 11.5 db loss at 150'. It is usually used up to VHF only for high power transmit (50 ohm).

Dish 1000 on 6' Antenna in Alaska

There are 2 kinds of satellite TV users: The "operators" and the "hopeless geeks". Operators are happy once things are tuned in to forget about the equipment and watch TV. The satellite geeks will always want to know "why", "what if", or "I think I will try so and so". Similar to the proud...

Dish 1000 on 6' Antenna in Alaska

Welcome to another mad scientist project, I am up in central Alaska and have been using a 4 antenna solution to receive the equivalent of a Dish 1000 system. I use a 6' Anderson antenna to pick up 119 and 118.7 using a Dish Pro dual band LNB. 110 comes off a 1 meter antenna, and 129 is on a...

Sub zero C-band actuator usage help

Yeah I would think in less extreme temps even below zero, heat tape would be adequate. You should see how standard greases and oils behaves at really low temps.

Sub zero C-band actuator usage help

My C band dish is out of service but still up in the air. When I was using it (12') it would move even in interior Alaska cold at 40 below or colder. Disassemble everything, remove the automotive grease and re-lube with arctic grade synthetic grease, and it's off to te races. I have an 18"...

Rain Is there a way to tweak a dish give it more Power

How to Eliminate Rain Problems You have a common problem on your hands, what you want to do is minimize the effects of rain on your dish. When it gets wet, the surface tension of the raindrops on the surface of the dish causes the invisible satellite waves to "scatter" and not end up where...

At what size does bigger not make a differance

Dish Size rv1pop, something does not sound right with those dish sizes. I assume you are talking about Barrow, Alaska. The dish sizes needed for various services is not much different than interior Alaska in most cases but larger than the lower 48. I use Ku dishes up to 6 feet, 12 feet for C...

Dish 1000+ at 65 Degrees North

It's surprising that DISH110 picks up 118.7 on a .75M, my signal levels with my 6' dish is all over 70 on the transponders I can get on 118.7 I never tried a smaller dish.

    129 conus in Fairbanks?

Hi DISH110, yes I am in Fairbanks too and just finished upgrading my stuff. I think everyone is right about only being able to pick up the spot beams on 129 with the 30" dish I have, or with your 36". Thanks Redsalmon for joining in. I have an unused 6' I could use for 129, maybe someone else...

Dish 1000+ at 65 Degrees North

I saw your post, and like your system. So if the dishes are larger than what Dish installs, nothing wrong with that! More gain is always good! Tinkering is a great hobby..... Satellite stuff is a lot like Ham radio in that respect, the groups are a lot alike.

Snow will not collect in the dish, or on the feed either since we have real dry snow. Further south they use shields to keep snow off the feed. At work our C band dishes are 99% prime focus, and they DO COLLECT SNOW. We make many trips to the bush to remove snow if the locals don't sweep them...

Dish Photos Here are some pics of my version of an Alaskan Dish 1000+ setup. 1.8M Andersen True Focus on 119 and 118.7, using a DP dual band LNBF from a Dish 500+ system. I stripped the cover off the LNBF, dishes were peaked with a Channel Master meter that I bought off the installer! This is a...

Wouldn't want it to be too easy, then the hobby part of TV would disappear. All the time I spent goofing around with getting TV in central Alaska over the years has beeen fun. Everything is non-standard.

I'll borrow my wifes camera tomorrow and post some pics. The most interesting part is that the DP dual works great on this dish even though it has elliptical scalar rings.

Sorry it's taken this long to post my results on my 1.8M True Focus with a Dish Pro dual band LNBF on 118 and 119. My installer was here yesterday, he added a 30" on 129, this along with my existing 1 meter dish on 110 has me up on all 4 satellites 110, 118, 119, 129. I upgraded my receiver to...

    Dish 500 Plus and 118.7

Getting Ready to Add 118.7 to a True Focus 1.8M Interesting thread and timely. My Dish Pro dual band LNBF just arrived from Ebay along with a DP34. I now have different disnes on 110 and 119, the latter is 1.8M. I will modify the DP dual band LNBF to fit on my dish, and may need to remove...

Alaska Int'l Programming Thanks Speedy, I'll give you a call, I almost went over to the dark side last year to switch providers, they have a solution for International programming in Alaska. I have been happy with my service for the most part as a technician I can easily use my own equipment...

I called Dish, they don't offer Int'l programming at all in Alaska. Even though I told them I could make it work, the CSA doesn't have the ability to add it. I would have to use a bogus address as done with some of the folks getting Canadian programming. I hate it when they pop my bubble when...

I have never seen a 500+ LNB, but I have seen pictures getting it to the focal point can be done I'm sure, but it's sort of an odd duck, with those strange scalar rings obviously designed for the eliptical dish. F/D may come into play too. I'm thinking with all the gain I have the "brute...

Dish 500+ in Alaska (Int'l Programming) Hey folks, I am in the Fairbanks area and using a True Focus 1.8M on 119 (cause I have it), and a 1 meter on 110. I plan on adding some international channels on 118.7 Through my reading, it looks like I need the DP dual band LNBF to pull this off and...
