    Sick of the Disputes

What "normal" cable system do you mean? This isn't the 80s where every town had their own cable company, they are all run by big conglomerates now. Comcast has more than double the amount of TV customers that Dish does, and Charter and Cox aren't far behind. Source.

    Sick of the Disputes

Comcast. It's far from perfect, but I have internet through them so I can bundle and save some money, and at least they have all the channels I want. I'd love to "cut the cord" (I put it in quotes because going to a streaming service like Sling or YTTV is just cable by another method), but...

    Sick of the Disputes

I'm sure the truth is in the middle, like it usually is. But the way I look at it, Dish now has open disputes with HBO (Time Warner), the Fox RSNs (Sinclair), NFL Network (NFL), and now various locals (Scripps). The common denominator with all four of those disputes is Dish. I know everyone...

Is Dish still HD Lite in 2019?

I'm on record as not being happy with Dish's PQ. Especially on darker scenes, there's so much macroblocking it can be hard to tell what's going on. We switched from DirecTV a year ago, and Dish's PQ is a bit worse. But where we really see the difference is on streaming. With a good internet...

Fox Blocks Millions of DISH Customers

Same here. I'd never have satellite service of any kind without OTA to supplement it. I even bought a used AM21 on eBay when I had DirecTV.

Fox Blocks Millions of DISH Customers

IMO, there are no "good or bad" guys among the channel owners or the service providers. They are all trying to maximize their own profits, which is fine, of course. And I don't envy Dish, either. They have much less leverage in this situation. If their customers decide they want the Fox channels...

Fox Blocks Millions of DISH Customers

According to this report, Fox offered to keep the channels on during negotiation, and Saint Dish refused. It's not that simple, and you know it. Many of us are under contract and would have to pay a substantial sum to leave. Look, we all have to weigh the pros and cons of different providers...

Fox Blocks Millions of DISH Customers

Exactly. Which is why I don't get so many people on this forum defending Dish.

Fox Blocks Millions of DISH Customers

Ugh. I hate agreeing with Buckeyes. :)

Fox Blocks Millions of DISH Customers

I don't see why you'd need more than one. And besides, you can switch whenever you want, since there are no long-term contracts or installation.

Fox Blocks Millions of DISH Customers

Please. It's not like both sides didn't know this was coming, of course they were going to want to put their side out there. I don't get why Dish gets a free pass from so many on this forum over these disputes. It takes two to tango. We get told that Fox wants to charge an unreasonable amount...

Fox Blocks Millions of DISH Customers

IMO, stuff like this is just going to accelerate the cord-cutting trend.

Fox Regional Sports Networks Block DISH and Sling TV Customers

I applaud Dish for trying to fight to keep carriage fees down, but at the end of the day, I'm going to choose a provider that gives me the channels I want, and losing Fox Sports Detroit is a big one for me. I can live without HBO by getting it on streaming, but I watch the Tigers, Wings, and...

    4K on Dish

Planet Earth 2 on ultra Blu-Ray is pretty "knock you out", IMO. That's my go-to for showing off my 4K TV. :) IMO, it's the compression. I haven't been too impressed with 4K on Dish, either. 4K streaming on things like Netflix looks a lot better.

The OFFICIAL DISH / HBO Thread

I actually prefer HBO through Amazon Prime to the overcompressed mess I got from Dish. The picture quality is outstanding.

Is it me, or has Dish's PQ gotten markedly worse in the past few weeks?

That's the ironic thing. I switched to DirecTV a couple of years ago, partially due to Dish's PQ. I switched back in October, and was pleasantly surprised to see that the PQ was pretty much the same as DirecTV. But since about the new year, I feel like I'm seeing more macro blocking and a...

Is it me, or has Dish's PQ gotten markedly worse in the past few weeks?

OK, fair enough. Maybe I've been watching too much streaming stuff lately, so I'm noticing the contrast more.

Is it me, or has Dish's PQ gotten markedly worse in the past few weeks?

Title says it all. I've noticed what seems like a lot more compression artifacting lately, especially on channels like TNT, LIfetime, and FX. Mostly macro blocking. I know Dish uses a good amount of compression, always has, but my perception is that it's getting worse lately. Of course...

I got a canned answer about how evil HBO is and an apology. That was it.

DISH Releases 21 James Bond Flicks in 4K for Holiday Binge-Watching

Thanks, but it looks like all I needed to do was reboot it. I'm watching "The Spy Who Loved Me" now, though I have to say it looks pretty much the same as my blu-ray copy.

DISH Releases 21 James Bond Flicks in 4K for Holiday Binge-Watching

I was pretty pumped about this, as I'm a huge Bond fan and just picked up my first 4K TV on a Black Friday deal. But I keep getting the message saying that my receiver has insufficient bandwidth. I have 75mb AT&T fiber and my Hopper is hard-wired to my router, so no wifi issues. Anybody else...

    HBO/Cinemax Takedown

Just FYI, I got HBO and Cinemax in the free movie promo when I signed up in September. This I agree with. They are flexing their monopoly power, which is why I am loath to give them my money via HBO GO. That would just reinforce their tactics.

    HBO/Cinemax Takedown

It is, but I'm an inveterate channel-surfer, so I really like having those channels in the guide where I can just see what's on and flip to it. I suppose when my true must-see shows come back, I'll sign up for HBO Now, but I hate rewarding AT&T for pulling this crap, too.

    HBO/Cinemax Takedown

This sucks. I just switched back to Dish from DirecTV and now I lose one of my must-have channels. I just got on a chat with Dish to complain about it. I know the poor rep on the chat can't do anything about it, but at least she can pass it along to the higher-ups. I get that they are taking a...
