Convince me to switch from an iPhone

I sometimes think that we the users have lost the plot. I have a galaxy S4 and herself has an iphone 5 and at the end of the day they are both excellent at what they essentially are - phones. All those bolt on goodies that the manufacturers add to make us buy are just compromised gadgets that...

DISH Makes offer to buy Sprint (Rescinded)

In the EU there are 18/19 Nat and Discovery channels of which I like 8. I think you are right especially in the Discovery channels and consolidating would cut down the repeats. The Nat Geo seem to be have more scope and better catagorised. Ideally I wish I could choose the channels I wanted in...

DISH Makes offer to buy Sprint (Rescinded)

Since I have neither Dish or Direct I have looked at both forums together with the unsolicited twice a week offers from Dish (one from my telephone provider) and weekly from Direct over many months. I find very llittle difference in the services and clearly some locations will not have a choice...

DISH Makes offer to buy Sprint (Rescinded)

Thanks for your response, I guess living in California you see things differently to the rest of the US. Pity you could not spend a little more time, detail what is so great about Dish and take a look at their customer base figures.

DISH Makes offer to buy Sprint (Rescinded)

I wish some-one could tell me what's so great about dish. They run an inferior satellite system that is already outdated and users have to have cheap and nasty dishes that are only marginally fit for purpose. Their CEO has a poor reputation and their customer base TV and satellite internet is...

DISH Makes offer to buy Sprint (Rescinded)

Its 3 years since I went to Japan and driving even in Tokyo was fraught with drop out changing cells. The subways and major buildings hand their own cells and repeaters throughout and I agree the subways were excellent.

DISH Makes offer to buy Sprint (Rescinded)

One of Vodafones superb deals to sell to Softbank. I found Japan to have really poor coverage with its 9 cell phone companies especially rural and and also dead spots in major cities.

DISH Makes offer to buy Sprint (Rescinded)

Now I just hope Dish doesn't get their hands on clearwire. Clearwire should have been Dish's more obvious choice, hopefully Sprint have shown them the way. However both Sprint and Clearwire are still likely candidates for a global company partner or takeover. One of the more obvious companies...

DISH Makes offer to buy Sprint (Rescinded)

Dish is already old technology in the communications business and its subscriber base is declining. Sprint clearly see their future with a global communicatons company as already Verizon have done.

    Looking for ideas and input

Hi Radar Now this is an interesting project. As I see it the big problems are heat loss from tank's water surface area and keeping the 1165 gallons a constant temperature throughout. Insulation is clearly the answer for constant temperature together with water flow. As you say you don't have to...

US studies reusing old dead satellites. AP Story

I agree, I can't imagine any retrieveability being commercially viable, satellites are outdated so quickly. In order to obtain a license to provide telecommunications services in the United States, the FCC requires all geostationary satellites launched after March 18, 2002, to commit to moving...

    Roku/IP

Thanks Jim I was thinking of registering the roku here in the US hoping it would retain the IP in its data memory and not search for an actual IP. What do you think? My Cyprus IP is static and I get just short of 10mbs to the US without a vpn so that should be ok.

    Roku/IP

I have a Roku 2HD registered to my US address here and I was wondering whether I could take it to Europe and use it for netflix there on my same subscription. My though was it would retain the IP on the first registration or would Netflix check IP at the router. In that case I would have to use...

Mpeg h.265 to deliver twice the video quality

@ Dangue , Absolutely right. I am sure the carriers will first just increase costs to the consumer for the same cap and then halve the cap when they complain. Carrier win win, customer as usual lose or pay more

Not only are you out of range, I'm guessing you have a Meo or Canal package and unfortunately many of their programs are not available on any US satellite providers. Best option is to find a stream for your favorite programs via the internet.
