    need input on toroidial dishes

thanks for the info Thanks guys for your helpful information. Pendragon, I know 83 is a weak bird, but it wouldn't hurt to at least try. When I first started getting into FTA, all I had was the receiver's SQ meter. Two months ago, I bought a used BirDog meter on eBay and already made my...

    need input on toroidial dishes

my apology for getting too excited Apparently, I was filling up with excitement about using a toroidal dish until I had done some research on Google. There's a major drawback to using these dishes. There had been a warning posted here about this type of dish. You can read it here...

    need input on toroidial dishes

I'm still in the process of engineering a work-around on my C/Ku band project in regards to how I would be able to connect it to the whole house TV network. It looks as if I might have to put a 2 x 1 switch in and just dedicate the switch's output to only the living room. This brought about the...

    Prepare to Rename Your Satellites

not that hard to do It's not that hard to do really. I prefer to have actual names for the satellites than by position coordinates (72, 89, 121, and so on). Whenever I reset my receiver and unless I had saved the channels and satellite lists, it reverts back to the original programmed...

Your Immediate Action Needed to Retain FTA Broadcaster

I filled out the survey on the FFE web site. I hope they hear us and keep it on G19.

    need help with setup

Hi guys! I am kind of stuck right now on my FTA 1.8m C/Ku dish upgrade project (weather is part of the reason). Here is what I got done so far. I have installed a 14 foot pole (2 1/2 inch inside diameter) with 4 1/2 feet buried in concrete. The inside of the pole has been filled with concrete to...

    dead dish motor?

problem solved! I am updating everyone on the status of what appears to be a malfunctioning PowerTech DG280 motor on my Fortec 90cm dish. I followed the directions in the manual to reset the motor. Yay - problem solved! I am now able to go in either direction. I am still going ahead with my...

    Sadoun 1.8M Polar Mount Assembly

thanks for the insight Wrdavis, thanks for the review and insight on the Sadoun 1.8 meter dish! I am seriously considering getting this dish package as an upgrade to my 90cm dish after the motor gave out. It's very helpful to read and learn from others before making any investments in time and...

    dead dish motor?

trying again I tried again in adjusting the limits on the DG280 motor - still nothing. I did find the manual for the motor so I am going to follow the directions on how to reset it and hopefully restore it.

    dead dish motor?

gotten worse? I had looked at setting the limits and it's only available for the DiSEqC mode. I set the parameters for one of the satellites next to AMC and put it on DiSEqC mode. I pressed the buttons on the remote to move it and nothing seemed to happen. I changed it back to the USALS mode...

    dead dish motor?

will check this out Turbosat, it had not occured to me that it might be a limit setting issue. I have the manual near the receiver and will look at the limit setting. I may have pressed some buttons while trying to get the system to work.

    dead dish motor?

another wierd problem I unplugged the receiver, went up on the roof, connected one of the LNBF outputs to the motor, and came back down to plug in the receiver. There's good news and bad news. Bad news - the motor LEDS are still out and manual buttons still don't work. Good news - the motor...

    dead dish motor?

found the problem I just went up on the roof to check out the motor and tried pushing the manual buttons - didn't budge. I didn't see the blinking LEDs on the back of the motor housing (indicating it was receiving power). I had two of the four Invaquad QPH-031 outputs put through a 2...

    dead dish motor?

worth a try Blindowl1234, you gave me a good idea in fixing the dish motor problem. I know that there is a reset in the receiver, but I'll check on the motor. I'm still committed to the idea of getting a bigger dish, but I want to extend the operating time on the motor until the bigger dish is...

    dead dish motor?

I had discovered last night that the dish motor is not rotating the dish. My Fortec Star Dynamic receiver shows on screen that it is rotating the 90cm dish, but still no picture. I went outside and saw that the dish is stuck in the 121 degree position. I know it was working before and yes, the...

Incandescent phase out - dimmable CFLs?

I had tried using a CFL on a dimmer circuit and it didn't dim very much. The CFL I used was one of those that are not supposed to be used on a dimmer switch. I will buy a twin pack of dimmable CFLs to try on the dimmer circuit. I did make an interesting discovery though. When I put the CFL on...

please reply, ku band channel help

I'd like to add to Satellite AV's suggestion of slowly adjusting the angle of the dish little by little until you get a signal and not just the azimuth (bearing) direction. Don't give up on getting the dish aligned. The first time I set up my dish it took me two days to lock in on D121. After...

    Anyone want a 26' dish? :)

It sounds like a great offer, but I don't know where to put it. I'm a ham myself and I used to have the dream of doing EME, but not any more.

    AMC9

thanks for the info Thanks for the info. I was about to ask the members what's up with RTV, but I'm glad I checked for other posted questions regarding RTV before asking about RTV myself. I had tried for several nights to watch RTV with both feeds non-existent while the other camera feeds...

    found place for mounting dish

I'm sorry that I haven't been at this site for a while, but I've been busy with completing the living room makeover. I've got power set up for the home theater and projection screen system and operating, most of the cables are in place, and the recessed lighting is about finished. Some of you...

    My first major mistake

Okay, I blew it! The other day I was trying to operate my Fortec remote and thought it was the batteries. I replaced the batteries and nothing happened when I tried to get the Dynamic receiver to switch to the OTA to check out how well the OTA reception looked on the receiver. In...

Was RTN Down last nite (6/2)?

I'm not sure if it's the motor. I had tweaked the dish angle again after first locking in on d*121 - this time to maximize the quality for RTN. RTN is coming in fine at my location. In fact, before I made a slight adjustment to see AMC9 better, I haven't been able to see any bird to the...

Anyone else having RTN problems tonight?(5-25-9)

receiving RTN well I tweaked my dish this evening in an attempt to improve the reception of RTN. In the last time I tweaked the dish, RTN was showing up in the position of Nimiq 4 (81 degrees) I moved the dish to 83 degrees, setting it to RTN's transponder, and slightly pushing the dish...

    PBS on AMC 21

Your problem seems a lot like mine when I couldn't get a lock on the other sats, but I could get D*121. Aiming the dish has to be precise to be able to lock in on the entire satellite belt. Try aiming your dish at your southern sat, tweak the strength/quality and then try again.
