I'm watching The Birds currently from the first EHD I setup in 2007. I recorded this copy of the movie from the MONSTERS channel, part of the Voom network. I moved it over to EHD in October of 2007 and it's playing fine right now.

The EHD process is not as smart as the DVR. You need to press pause, then stop so that the dvr remembers where you left off when watching a show straight off the EHD. I have noticed that resume on an EHD show picks up from the last place you pressed pause if you go back to replay a show you...

I have an EHD that does this to me more often then not. You just have to turn it off and then back on again until it is recognized. Some drives are less useful as an ehd than others. I hope you didn't FORMAT the drive...

It will delete after you watch the next ehd recording. The FF/REW thing is not the problem. The problem is when you watch your second recorded program of the day, it will be deleted.

I think if you do more searching and reading you will find plenty of results indicating that you should be able to continue your tradition.

A couple of issues with this solution: 1. You have to open your receiver. Won't work for leased machines. 2. This sits on top of the HD and MAY cool it but the reason the HD is hot in the first place is the Broadcom chipset sitting directly underneath it cooking it. A better solution...

Must be a failing drive then. I have 5 ext HDs, some WD some Seagate, and all work fine with 6.23

This has been a problem for any ext hd that has a sleep mode active on it. Seagate models have to have their sleep mode turned off to work correctly. There is a thread here about using this problem to your advantage in making backups of recordings.

You can set your receiver for 1080i. The 120hz on your tv is a video process performed by the tv to the signal it receives to add frames to the signal in an attempt to smooth the image. Looks too much like live video for me.
