Hello,
I have 4 HR24's. I have whole home DVR service.
None of them are connected to phone lines or ethernet. I've just installed high speed Internet and I'm contemplating hooking them up. I have an ethernet port by each one so my plan is to just plug an ethernet cable into the back of...
Hi SSTV,
Thanks for the info. I looked around other forums and found much more discussion of this problem.
The OTA channel that has failed is a FOX channel.
I wonder if DTV is even looking at this problem?
How often does the failure occur? Is it on more than one DVR or one OTA channel? Can you force the failure to happen? Have you contacted support? How long did you have your equipment before noticing the problem?
I have now seen the problem on two HR24/AM21 units. Same channel...
Have four HR24's. All are new as of October 6th. They work great except for one anomaly.
If I record a local (channel 2-1, Oakland) and then fast forward through the recording (at greater than 1X sped) the image will split. The bottom part of the frame will freeze and the top part will...
When initially installing the HR24 can the AM21 be installed on a receiver that has yet to be authorized? I've been told that the AM21 should NOT be installed until the HR24 goes through initial activation.
What's the story on this?
Let's do some arithmetic. Draw of the 722 is 50 watts. Times 4 (for me) is 200 watts. Times 24 is 4.8 kilowatts.
My electric bill averages $255 a month (PG&E, Northern California). Average kilowatt hours per day are 32.8. So the "can't turn them off" DVR's consume 14.6% of all the...
Iceberg,
Glad to hear that this info matched what you see in Minneapolis.
I found all of the SF Bay Area OTA stations that I care about. I wish Direct would have had this information posted in an easy to find area on their site.
Based on all of this recent information I think I'm going to...
Thanks for posting this. I've been looking for this information.
I sent an email to Direct asking about the AM21 channels. For what its worth here is the reply.....
I don't think you answered my question.
Let's take some examples. In the SF Bay Area there are OTA channels that are...
The 722 "power off" doesn't really power off or go into a suspend mode. It continues to run pretty much at full steam. It draws around 50 watts even in "off" mode. If you go to the diagnostics menu and look for counters you can find the temperatures.
Look at this thread...
A large negative when starting off with DISH was their bizarre reluctance to lease me as many DVR's as I wanted (Direct has no such issue). I have 4 HD TV's. I wanted to be able to handle two HD streams per TV. In 2009 the only option I had for doing this was buying two DVR's. I went...
THIS IS ALSO POSTED IN THE DIRECT FORUM. LOOKING FOR A REALITY CHECK.
I've had DISH for two years. Installation is 4 VIP722's with OTA.
I'm seriously considering a switch because it looks like DISH runs about $25 a month higher than Direct and I'm tired of the 722's (which always suck...

I'm seriously considering a switch because it looks like DISH runs about $25 a month higher than Direct and I'm tired of the 722's (which always suck power) being 24 x 7 hot plates.
I've put more time into this that I...
The "supervisor" did not explain how.
I shared this with the guy (independent A/V guy) that I will do business with. He called Direct installer support and they said, as posted here, that if it's not in the guide the AM21 won't get.
Thanks for the info. I looked at Zap2It listing for antenna channels and found that all channels that I care about were covered (I'm in zip code 95120). So, theoretically, all of these channels and subchannels should show up, right?
I jumped into the Direct phone tree. After about 20...
This is a little random.
I'm currently on DISH (4 VIP722's with OTA). Thinking of converting to direct for various issues (cost, VIP722 heat and power consumption, etc.).
Trying to clarify a couple of issues...
1) Does the AM21 show ALL local channels that it sucks out of the air...
Vertical is bad, 722's run hot, the vents will be blocked.
Look at the cooling thread on this forum (Average 622/722 Temperature thread, Is your's Hot?).
Check the diagnostic/counters screen for the max/min/average HDD temps.
I have 4 722's. I got them in March. Two are leased, two are purchased. Dish would only lease 2.
You need a DPP44 switch to handle 4 dual tuner DVR's.
I learned, the hard way, that many of the DISH customer "service" people do not know this information. Unless you are lucky you...
As a user of four 722's that all have additional cooling devices attached to keep their temps down I was wondering about heat issues on the 922.
Is there a diagnostics temperature screen?
Does it run cooler than a 722?
Does it actually power all the way off into a trickle charge standby state...
I have been monitoring this thread for months. I setup 4 722's in March and I am glad that I had been reading this forum, and particularly this thread, beforehand. The information has been great and I hope to avoid a french fried 722.
I have various types of cooling on all of my 722's...
Concerning PIP: Have had it for years with TV's on unscrambled cable. Tend to channel surf a lot, just wandering around the airways. Will stop on something interesting while waiting for a commercial to end on the news. With PIP you just monitor the one program while waiting for another...
