Multiple apartments- one dish, MRV, and on-demand

That's what I'm thinking I should do. The only problem is I need to get through the stupidity at DTV customer service to get my old dish back up. I'm not sure I have the time right now to spend hours on the phone and then have the tech show up without the right equipment after waiting half a...

Multiple apartments- one dish, MRV, and on-demand

That diagram is kind of what I'm envisioning at this point. But why is there a BS filter and 2 coax between the HR 20 and the splitter?

Multiple apartments- one dish, MRV, and on-demand

I see. So I guess Netflush920's diagram is not a viable solution if you are using MRV unless the receiver happens to be located next to the router.

Multiple apartments- one dish, MRV, and on-demand

That's interesting. So there is a wireless method, that's the first I've heard of that. So if you use the wireless adapters shown in the diagram, you don't need the DECA boxes at all, either for on-demand or whole house DVR? Are the band stop filters required?

Multiple apartments- one dish, MRV, and on-demand

I'm interested in solutions, but as I said, your diagram does not appear to offer any unless the DVR happens to be located next to the router, probably a rare occurrence. Also the bandstop filters that others have mentioned seem like a logical approach to me, but you don't show them in your...

Multiple apartments- one dish, MRV, and on-demand

I understand, and I'm curious about how this stuff can be made to work, which is why I'm still here trying to learn. But I'm starting to wonder if in the bigger picture this stuff is really worth fighting for, and jumping through hoops over, or maybe it's time to pull the plug on the whole...

Multiple apartments- one dish, MRV, and on-demand

I'm not sure how that would work unless the DVR happens to be located right next to the internet router, which it isn't in any of the apartments.

Multiple apartments- one dish, MRV, and on-demand

Okay, that makes sense. How would I find out if it is or isn't isolated by the BSF before I try it? And if it isn't, how would I limit internet traffic to devices within the apartment? DirectTV is who both I and the tenant have tried to talk to about this. They won't talk to me...

Multiple apartments- one dish, MRV, and on-demand

Your diagram doesn't show how the system ties into the internet, so it doesn't really address the problem.

Multiple apartments- one dish, MRV, and on-demand

I'm not sure how that could work. All the receivers are connected to the SWiM switch. If you place a filter between the SWiM switch and the DVR to prevent sharing, then how would receivers within the same apartment be able to share with each other to do MRV? That doesn't make sense. As I...

Multiple apartments- one dish, MRV, and on-demand

My understanding is that the internet connection goes to the SWiM splitter, as in the attached diagram. Thus all apartments must use my internet connection, unless someone can explain how to set up each apartment separately. And nobody has really explained how to avoid sharing my DVR with the...

Multiple apartments- one dish, MRV, and on-demand

They did know, since I told them that very clearly, and they entered two of the apartments during the install. My apartment, plus two others are all on the same dish. With each apartment having one DVR (two tuners) + one additional tuner in another room, that's a total of 9. The SWM dish they...

Multiple apartments- one dish, MRV, and on-demand

So I guess nobody knows the answer?? Hard to believe. I'm starting to think this technology is a cobbled-together hack. Anyway, I called DTV to see if they would come back and put the dish back to what it was before and they told me they couldn't talk to me, I'd have to have the tenant call...

Can I get an older receiver to work with SWiM?

Well, I guess I've got my answer on this. I'm seriously considering trying to get DTV back out to put up the 4-output dish. It seems like they really screwed me when they took it down and threw it in the trash. With the SWiM dish I'm limited to 8 tuners and can't use legacy tuners, when...

Multiple apartments- one dish, MRV, and on-demand

Yes- 3 apartments in the building. Sounds like DTV pretty much screwed me by taking down my old dish, throwing it in the trash, and putting up this SWiM Dish, when all they had to do was put in a SWiM multiswitch. So I'm not sure what to do about that, although I may be able to get by with the...

Multiple apartments- one dish, MRV, and on-demand

I've done that for years- that's not the issue. Everyone has always had their own account, the whole building just feeds off one dish. The question is regarding the new features: MRV and on-demand. Must those services be shared between accounts, and to what extent?

Multiple apartments- one dish, MRV, and on-demand

I own a small apartment building that I also live in. We've had DTV for years. One dish serves all the apartments. Recently DTV came out and removed the old dish with 4 wires to the multiswitch and replaced it with the SWiM technology. One wire from the new dish to the new Zinwell...

Can I get an older receiver to work with SWiM?

It is an owned box and yeah simple enough to go without DTV service in that room for 30 days. But it is a bit of a lie, and if anybody checks they will know darned well that the box stopped working before I signed up for the protection plan. However I am taking it under consideration.

Can I get an older receiver to work with SWiM?

I know. I would pass on the MRV, if I could avoid the 2-year contract by getting the old receiver to work. It sounds like I would have been better off leaving the old dish in place, and just purchasing a new SWiM Multiswitch myself. That would have given me SWiM plus legacy ports...

Can I get an older receiver to work with SWiM?

Yes, they installed the new SWiM dish with one wire to the splitter, rather than the 4 used previously. So no way to get the old receiver to work?

Can I get an older receiver to work with SWiM?

The reason is a bit complicated. This is a small apartment building which I own and also live in. A tenant switched from Comcast to DTV, and when the tech was out, he indicated that the work order told him to upgrade the dish, etc. to SWiM. The tenant contacted me because they do not have...

Can I get an older receiver to work with SWiM?

My building recently had an unplanned upgrade to SWiM. (I'll skip the details). As part of that, they replaced the old multiswitch with a Zinwell SWiM msplit8ro-03. When the tech was out, he explained that one of my two receivers (D11) would no longer function. I thought, fine, I'll just get...
