    Bob Cooper has passed away

Sorry to hear this. It was his articles in Radio Electronics magazine that first got me started in this hobby.

Unsuccesful attempt to receive satellite signal behind a window

Our triple pane low-e glass windows completely block XM radio at 2.3 GHz and severely attenuate UHF TV signals. Open the window and it works fine. Surprisingly, XM radio can be received inside our house through stucco walls with metal lath, but move the antenna to a window and the signal goes away.

    Cband has become more frustrating....

OK, got it at 139w on an 8 ft Birdview here in New Mexico. Only 5.2 dB, but a solid lock. Thanks for everyones help.

    Cband has become more frustrating....

I was confused too. I had assumed, incorrectly, that ARCS had moved to 127w. I am getting 3880 H 30000 with an SNR of 12.0 dB. Looks like ARCS is still on 139w.

    Cband has become more frustrating....

Thanks. I'll try peaking the dish tomorrow.

    Cband has become more frustrating....

Could someone post the freq and SR of the Alaskan mux? I'm getting most everything else without any problems on my 8 ft. Birdview. But not getting this one.

Did anyone get SSTV from ISS on 145.800 MHz?

First of 4 images received overnight.

Did anyone get SSTV from ISS on 145.800 MHz?

This SSTV event was done by the Moscow Aviation Institute (MAI). They usually don't transmit during the entire ISS orbit, but only during periods that favor reception over Russia. I only saw one reception report from N.A. There is another SSTV event coming up at the end of this month that will...

Thanks! Noticed the change and couldn't figure it out. Also their Facebook page seems to be gone.

SSTV from the ISS coming up!

Here are a few of the images that I've received in the last two days. As usual, the sequence of images is somewhat synchronous with the orbit of the ISS, so I've gotten as many as 7 copies of some images and none of a few others. Hopefully I will receive the others later in the week. The FM...

What attenuates the signal coming to LNBF

Very interesting polgyver. Thanks for posting your tests. Snow in my C Band dish doesn't attenuate the signal much. But once it starts to melt and turns to slush, the signal drops way down. I once read in Coop's Satellite Digest about a guy who had a C Band dish in his garage (wooden...

SSTV from the ISS coming up!

Thanks KE4EST. Downloaded YONIQ and managed to catch what might be the the last pass in the current SSTV session. One thing I noticed. Even though I installed YONIQ in a separate folder from the original MMSSTV, YONIQ was saving the images in the original history folder, overwriting my old...

SSTV from the ISS coming up!

Back in September they turned on a new rig on the ISS. A modified Kenwood D710G. I believe power out is now 25 watts, from the previous rig's output of 5 watts. I'm using a unity gain discone antenna with a few dB of coax loss. The signal often pegs the S meter of my TS2000x at 60 over S9.

Had a couple of good passes early this morning. Merry Christmas.

Star one c2 70w analog feeds

I was somewhat active on ATV in the 70s. This was double sideband AM on 426 MHz, using modified commercial and homebrew equipment. Audio was on 2 meter FM. I ran only about 10 watts, which wasn't nearly enough, but managed to be seen about 40 miles away. My low power and lack of activity made it...

    AMC-6 is on the move...

Looks like AMC 6 has replaced AMC 18 at 139w. For the first time I can receive ARCS. On my 8.5 ft dish it's breaking up badly at 4.4 db. Should be OK on my 10 ft dish. Just need to take care of some tracking issues at the far end of the arc and deal with a few trees for the 10 footer to work.

    Chaparral C orthomode feed How-To

IMHO it doesn't matter which way you mount the LNBs to the waveguide on the feed. Either way should give the same results. For mounting the whole assembly on the antenna, orient it so that the probe in one LNB is exactly parallel to the dish axis (N-S), that will be your vertical polarity. The...

    115 West.

Another signal just came up on 11,981. Way too weak to lock here, 2 to 3 dB SNR on the spectrum analyzer. Probably the same parms as the other CBC feeds.

    115 West.

Yes, seeing the 11,990 signal here also. About 1 dB weaker than the previous signal which is gone. Breaking up badly.

    115 West.

The feed is barely hanging in there right now, breaking up some. No way I would get it with anything less than a 1.2 meter dish.

OK. Had a large thunderstorm roll through here yesterday afternoon, 1.5 inches of rain. Completely lost Montreal. Just cloudy here this morning, so signal is OK. Signal is still up. A CBC reporter was on earlier, just standing around. Back to color bars now.

The dish is a 1.2 meter Geosat pro. There is a CBC signal up right now: 11,986 H 4100 8PSK 5/6. Scans is as Camion MTL-3. Just color bars at this time. About 2 dB weaker than Montreal.

There is a signal up right now at 11,986 H. Too weak for me to lock, 4 to 5 dB. Probably a CBC news feed.

    115 West.

I've seen Canadian news feeds in the last month or two on 11,977 11,981 11,986 and 11,990. All horizontal, all 8PSK with an SR of 4100. (YMMV on the frequencies, using a DRO LNBF here.) Signal strength varies a lot. At best they can be as strong as ICE (Montreal) which I get with an SNR of...

    AMC-6 is on the move...

You receive ARCS from 139w in New Mexico? I don't see even a hint of a signal here. If so, what size dish do you have?
