Some time ago I was able to receive FTA satellite programs after reflection from mirror and with setting up a dish inside a room.
However, the particular window in this room was older than the other windows.
I was curious if newer windows have different glass, namely very thin, invisible layer of special coating for reflecting radiation of infrared or other rays.
My today's trial seems to confirm my suspicions.
The window between living room and porch is made of glass which COMPLETELY blocks satellite beam.
The dish will go tomorow to backyard post, where it belongs...

What happens if you open the window? :biggrin

The "Low-e" coatings often used on dual pane windows use a metallic silver applied to the glass. I fully expect it could block DBS satellite signals.

Our triple pane low-e glass windows completely block XM radio at 2.3 GHz and severely attenuate UHF TV signals. Open the window and it works fine. Surprisingly, XM radio can be received inside our house through stucco walls with metal lath, but move the antenna to a window and the signal goes away.
