It seems that I have found the answer to this question. If you go to the Wildblue Help section, there is information there about how to use a web site called Toast.net to test both your upload and download speeds. I tried it out and it seems to work!

I am a new WB customer. Is there a way to view the actual download and upload speeds in real time? It would be best if that info was in graph form, but numerical data would be OK.

Damn. My 811 had been working fine for quite some time. Now with 3.34 it loses program guide information every once in a while and has to download the program guide. The same thing was happening about a year ago but had been fixed with subsequent software releases. Now with 3.34 it is back again.

Hi Dish Dude. Actually I was born in Fargo and grew up in Valley City, but have been living in Wisconsin for a long time now. The cabin is in northern Wisconsin at a slightly lower latitude than Fargo. The setup calls for a skew of 113. I will play around with it some more this weekend.

Thanks for the thoughts, Dish Dude. I did run a check switch before aiming the dish. That part of the test ran OK according to the installation manual. I understand that to mean that the LNB and cable are good. The software probably is old. I don'n think this receiver has been in use for a year...

I think you need to perform a "Check Switch" each time you install a different type of LNB.

If it has no tuner it is HD capable, not HD ready.

If your TV is HD ready, it already has an HD tuner in it. Just hook up an antenna and away you go.

There must be several hardware varieties out there of the 811. Mine was very buggy with 284 and now with 287 it works perfectly. I have had 287 since the day they released it.

Here is another thing to check: Is UPN broadcasting their digital signal on a UHF carrier like most other stations? You can find that out on Antennaweb.org too. If it is on VHF, your Zenith antenna probably would not receive it. -Ken (in Beijing for now)
