With 129 gone, who is best?

I have 4 separate 1 meter dishes, feeding a DPP44. Since losing 129, who would be next best one? Not looking for international content. Thanks, Kevin

    Hopper w/Sling curiosities

Thanks for reply and confirming my suspicions. I had the 612 a Long time and having "fun" relearning. Come winter, a long spelunking of storage behavior pends. (retired systems engineer)

Internal Hard Disk Drives in Dish Receivers,

I have a 612, EXACT model number Must Match. My 612 can use a 320 or 500 GB Seagate - That's ALL. I bought a spare 320 and the 500 (a guess, but same model series) because HD failure is WAY more likely than anything else. I recm'd get the right drive, swap it (just like a PC) and format it. Now...

    Hopper w/Sling curiosities

Just having increasing issues with a VIP612 and upgraded to a Hopper w/Sling. A couple oddities arose: > can I make the recording schedule only show "now" and the future? It's showing Everything I've scheduled. Even a week ago. > is there a way to rename OTA recordings? I see no way to rename...

Sheesh, try to pay a compliment...

Tried to talk to customer service, but voice system didn't give an option for a general comment. So, maybe they'll see it here. I Really like the latest user interface: > hit "guide" and select which one - no more toggling through the list > save to dvr 2+ of the same show and it creates a...

Since 77W is gone, who best to use?

I'll guess 110 - 120 feet. But performance would have to decline a lot before I'd change it. It was no fun to do as it is.

You can just see the pole at the corner of my field. The zoomed in pict even shows the shadows

Since 77W is gone, who best to use?

All 4 are standard DP LNBs. I suspect the eirp of the evens is different than odds. Maybe evens are affected by atmosphere more than odds, but RF is voodoo to me. Everything is RG-6 that I crimp ends on.

Since 77W is gone, who best to use?

From SW MI, 129 is very low to horizon. Even transponders get a high 30s signal - not bad given distance and atmosphere. Odd ones get upper 60s ! I do have to clear weeds a couple times each summer.

Since 77W is gone, who best to use?

You kids do stuff differently than us geezers (tee hee). I just barely understand what you're doing. Not good or bad, but most definitely a different. I envy you in some aspects, and am afraid for you in others. Stay safe & sane - I'm not confident that'll be easy.

Since 77W is gone, who best to use?

I made a "hanger" for a baseball hat to park the receiver next to my ear. Turn up the tv volume until the received tone is clear - good to >100 ft at least. Yup the toughest is getting initial aim to sat. Since I have a 129 doing well, it's "just" 10d pull east and 6d up elevation. I'll...

Since 77W is gone, who best to use?

Thanks, come warmer weax, I'll rehome 77 to 119. I use a baby monitor on the audio from the tv to tune it in. But I have to find it first - always a challenge. Thanks again

Since 77W is gone, who best to use?

I'm lower SW Michigan, bad weax kills the west arc then the east unless it's a big front. I'm running under the (probably rash) assumption that the Dish firmware will find the alternate. So if I have HD on 61.5 & 129 (list I used at setup) a redundant for 72.7 would be either 110 or 119. Until a...

Since 77W is gone, who best to use?

Hi, I have a 4 separate LNB/reflector setup feeding a DPP44. It was for 61.5, 72.7, 77, & 129. Now with 77 decommissioned (total surprise to Me), what would be the next best choice? Too cold to change now, but in 4-5 months yes. I was looking for a transponder / channel map, but all I see still...

    External Hard Drive

Interesting, so if I end my subscription to Dish, my account expires - becomes invalid? Therefore all EHD and internal saves become inaccessible? Not looking for a way around property rights, just once I've saved it, can I keep it?

    Spam call from Echostar?

I sort of recognized the number, checked, and it MATCHED Dish Network cust svc. I treat incoming as you, but these folks were Very Slick.

    External Hard Drive

Ah Ha, I stand corrected and thanks for it - makes perfect sense. Is it also you have to have a current subscription to some Dish package to keep the account # valid?

    Overcoming a Forest

Here's my answer: a VIP612, DPP44 and 4 x 39" (61, 72, 77, 129) I do get rain fade, but the downpour is drowning frogs. Clearly visible on Google Maps.

    Spam call from Echostar?

HOO BOY! Yes they are Very Slick! I got suckered all the way down the "update my firmware" BS until they insisted on my Visa card number. I hung up, called Dish and they confirmed it's a scam. BUT, it took almost an hour to kill then restart my account to restore service - bastards froze my...

Any quick fix for Hopper 3 hard drive?

I wonder if progressive fragmentation affects replays? I don't well remember when I swapped out the internal drive and formatted it, but recent recordings seem more prone to video freezes and audio dropouts. I'll try emptying & reformatting the internal to see.

    External Hard Drive

I'm fairly certain the encryption includes the internal receiver ID. It's why I have 3 spare HD that can replace the internal. If the internal goes bad, it won't have access to any EHD. I've a VIP612 and it's internal is hard coded to that HD make/model - it's a Seagate 3320311CS if 320GB...

Needing to transfer to East Arc, couple questions..

Hmmm, looks like the stub the arm bolts to is twisted. I'd clamp the sides with the pole in place in a sturdy vise. If the arm isn't dead 90, gently pull it until it is.

    DVR models compatible w/DPP33 system

Is there a definitive list of what works with what? I need to replace a Hopper & Joey and am getting conflicting answers. I run separate 40" dishes into a DPP33 & SoloNode. Wish I could buy a 612 or 722, but they're obsolete anyway. Is it only the Hopper3 w/16 tuners that require the LNB /...

    Doubling on 61.5 & 129

Well the recent high winds pushed 2 of mine offline, so I had to revert to the single WA setup. Glad I didn't take it down. In a couple weeks (warmer), I'll peak all 4 and see / report what happens. P.S. I'll be trying a baby monitor to hear the signal strength tone. Easier than dragging a...
