    Dish Specs, Trust But Verify!

That's a huge difference between the lnb rod mounting points. Maybe they sent you the wrong sized lnb rods? Can you measure the length of your lnb rods?

    Terrestrial shield

Another observation I've noticed is that there is almost no interference during the night (say 10pm-7am). Mostly happens during the daytime.

    Terrestrial shield

It happens on most transponders but is less & less frequent as the dish is moved away from true south and towards satellites lower on the horizon.

    Terrestrial shield

Anyone made a terrestrial shield for their dish? I seem to be getting some interference every now and again (shows up as packet losses in dvb card software / pixelated screen on tv). I was thinking of getting a large cardboard box and wrapping one side with aluminum foil and putting it on each...

    Multi-LNB dish

Does a 10ft dish work well for a multi-lnb setup in order to get 2 satellites that are 2 degrees apart? Anyone have this setup? What kind of typical signal loss would the 'offset' 2nd lnb experience?

    Partial frame dish

I've got some left over mesh panels (6 out of 8). Anyone tried using a 10ft dish with only 75% of the available mesh panels? I'm going to try it out and see if it works on at least some of the stronger transponders like gdmx on 99.2w.

How much does the scalar ring affect signal quality?

Which part of the scalar should be lined up with the markings on the lnbf? The back edge of the scalar that's pointed by the arrow here? http://i.imgur.com/7XHKrXd.jpg

    Actuator orientation

Does it matter if the motor portion of the actuator is at the top or bottom? I was playing around with an actuator today and noticed that if the motor was positioned to the left or right side the actuator would stall on some portitions, while if it was at the top or bottom it would be fine.

    Packet losses

I tried tsreader and it looks like the uncorrectable 'TEI errors' in it corresponds to the packet losses counter in dvbdream. I don't have a spectrum analyzer to look for terrestrial interference. Would something like the rf scanner in ebspro work as a substitute? I think even with an actual...

    Packet losses

I believe these packet losses are actually corrupted data after FEC is done. In dvbdream there's a packet loss counter that shows the # of bad packets based on the continuity counter field of a transport stream. This field increments by one for each packet and if this field doesn't do that it...

    Packet losses

I recently got a PCI card for my computer and have noticed that during the daytime I get packet losses (maybe 10-100 packets lost every few hours). During the night time it's almost perfect with no packet loss. The signal strength remains high 11-15 dB, yet the packet losses still occur for some...

    satellite finder meter

I have a pci card in my computer and use the ebspro android app to tune my dish. It speaks out the SNR value every time it changes so that you can use both hands and eyes for adjusting the lnb/dish.

    Actuator stalled

No, ASC1 number count stays the same but dish moves.

    Actuator stalled

I have a Venture MA-810-24K actuator and ASC1 positioner. I'm getting this message on the positioner Reach W/E limit? Limit switch/sensor? Motor blocked? If I manually keep clicking west or east the dish moves one click at a time. There isn't any software limit set on the asc1 and the actuator...

Peaking with computer signal analyzer softwre

Is software like ebspro a good way to peak the dish? I'm getting some odd inconsistencies with it. For example, 3844H on 99.2w is showing as 59% in ebspro but in dvbdream it's 84%. Which number should be trusted? I occasionally see packet losses when I'm monitoring the signal with dvb software...

Mounting dishes next to each other

Does anyone have 10ft dishes mounted besides each other? Is there a possibility of interference from signals bouncing off one and interfering with the other?

    Elevation / declination chart

Anyone have a link to an accurate elevation / declination chart for cband? I've seen a couple of them and they have different values, so not sure which is correct.

    Sudden, quick signal drops

Yes, I've tried 3 receivers, 2 LNBFs, 2 RG6 cables. Only common equipment was the dish itself. I don't have any switches or other equipment like actuators, just a direct connection from the LNBF to receiver. I've tried various chans like NBC on 105, CTV on 107, NASA on 127, some shopping chans...

    Sudden, quick signal drops

I've reduced the polling time for the signal strength info from the receiver and now it returns results every 250ms. The order of the 3 numbers for each reading is SNR BER AGC. According to this the SNR dropped from 87 to 21 in about 250ms and then went back up to 87. I looked at the recording...

    Sudden, quick signal drops

Don't have access to a spectrum analyzer. Can terrestrial interference be blocked by putting large cardboard boxes covered with aluminum foil to the left and right side of the dish? I can try another LNB, but I've tried 2 already.

    Sudden, quick signal drops

Tested with one receiver only and then the other. Happens on both. Also tried different sats across the arc, same issue. The dish came with a combo C/KU BSC621 LNBF. I borrowed a 2 output C2W-PLL LNBF to test simultaneously with 2 receivers. I think I can probably rule out any issues with the...

    Sudden, quick signal drops

No trees in the way. The closest obstruction is the neighbours house, but that is far away and not blocking the signal. Checked the LNB for spiders, bees, etc and none there. LNB arm seems okay. I shook the dish and arm a bit for testing and the signal remained fairly steady (5-10% drop), so it...

    Sudden, quick signal drops

Just as I was saying it hadn't dropped, it happened again 2 minutes later. Receiver 2 drops from 84% to 15% and Receiver 1 drops from 84% to 71%. Receiver 1 has more data points because it's faster in returning the signal info. I'm getting the signal data from the receiver and then sleeping for...

    Sudden, quick signal drops

KE4EST, it's a LNBF. Raine, seems to happen at random times, but I'm keeping a log now to see if there is any pattern. I'm logging the signal quality each second. So far today signals dropped for about a second at 1:23pm and 2:40pm. No drop since then (6:30pm here now in the Mountain zone).

    Sudden, quick signal drops

I found a 10ft cband dish in the local classifieds last week and have it setup. It's working well 99% of the time but there is this one remaining thing I'm trying to solve. A few times a day the signal quality (SNR) will drop to 0 for one or two seconds and then go back to normal. The signal...
