    HH Motors Ku

Oh for a 1.2m on an SG2100... you guys are making me rather nostalgic.

New Year! Any big FTA projects this year?

My goal this year: Get an FTA setup going again... it's been too long. And with poor tv reception here, it would be justified- er, handy- too ;)

    Hello Everyone!

Very good points. Yes, I'd planned on a stamped-steel one. My SG2100 was "rated" for 1.2m dishes, but really struggled and groaned at anything other than the middle of the arc. If I'm going to invest in a new dish (haven't found anything used around here), you know the saying... bigger is better...

    Hello Everyone!

That definitely sounds like the motor I want, thanks. Hrm, it says "up to 1.4m" dishes... I'm not able to find a north american vendor that sells 1.4m dishes, just 1.2m. Anyone have a suggestion?

    Hello Everyone!

It sounds like my best bet is a MicroHD STB (thanks for the great review, Ice)- hopefully used, since money is tight at the moment. I'm hunting around for any old Ku dish locally to start with. What's the word on the latest HH motors? My old SG2100 really used to struggle under the weight of a...

Kijiji, eBay, and Craigslist dishes for you to take a look at

Thanks for the heads-up! I'll keep looking. If you're in my neck of the woods, let me know if you spot anything over 30" :)

Kijiji, eBay, and Craigslist dishes for you to take a look at

One near me (Washington state), wish I had the equipment to go grab it: http://seattle.craigslist.org/skc/zip/4096914428.html

    Hello Everyone!

Speaking of retro... hi guys :) Sort of on topic so not a thread hijack- I now live in Lakebay, WA, and finally have some property to start thinking about an FTA setup again! After years of being gone, what advice would you fine folk have?

    Murphy's Law of FTA

Add this to Murphy's: Due to the failing economy and growing bills, you no longer have the money to leave the house; therefore, finally have time for FTA! However, because of the aforementioned dilemma, the spiffy if dusty Visionsat IV 200 and spare dish must be sold off :( Thank goodness...

    Rant: Go Deer Hunting

The annoying thing is I've had deer in my path before. Years ago back in NY, it was 1am on a country road, and I managed to swerve around one a little '89 Dodge Spirit. Last year I was driving my wife's '05 Grand Am on a back road at midnight, and managed to maneuver through a bunch of them...

    New to the hobby

Welcome to SatelliteGuys! :D I wouldn't think tiny dings that small (if I'm imagining it correctly) would make that big of a difference. Not to mention that a 39" (I'm jealous, see above comment about dish envy) should pull most things in beautifully. I've done both. There's an ancient...

    Line of sight

Isn't there some kind of Murphy's Law type rule in FTA hobbying that there will always be a neighbor's tree branch in the way of at least 20 degrees of view? Often compounded with the fact that Galaxy 18 will be smack in the middle of the obstruction? ... sorry, bit of humor ;) On a...

    Rant: Go Deer Hunting

It looks like most of the damage was plastic and fiberglass, plus the metal that holds that and the grill on. I already checked around, though, and no one within 200 miles had parts for something this old, of any color. My car really stuck out around here. Back east you could always find a...

    Rant: Go Deer Hunting

Thanks, I missed it here. Luckily (I guess) the older Buicks have a big, high front end. If I were in a Saturn SL2 or something, I'm sure the deer would have been on my hood or windshield. Sorry about the anger and talk of violence. :o I'm really not like that, but this car was my most /...

    Rant: Go Deer Hunting

I've never been a big fan of deer hunting. Maybe I never saw the point, or was sensitive to the poor helpless creatures. With the events of this morning, though, I am here to say: Shoot the f***ing bastards. Shoot them all. Every last g**damm one. On my way to work this morning (ten minute...

    Wheeeee......I'm unemployed

Iceberg- I am so glad things worked out! I can identify in so many ways. I did call center work for years and got quite burned out. I swore I wouldn't take another position like that again. I'm always impressed by those that can keep going doing it. Being out of work sucks. My wife lost...

Can anyone tell me what this is?

...and in many areas, the analog channels will still be around. Local repeaters, as I understand it, will be exempt. My mother-in-law lives in the little Idaho town of Burley. Pretty much every station she (barely) gets is off a repeater; she's much too far away from the original signals. She...

I'm back, and ready to... shop!

Hooray! I'm sure it's not 100% peaked, and I definitely need some new RG6 jumpers... but for now at least I'm so very pleased! Here's some pics of my new setup aimed at our favorite bird. I even scored a 120GB hard drive for $10 locally, I just need an external drive casing to make my Visionsat...

I'm back, and ready to... shop!

WAF is fine... of course, I have no clue what to do with all those trees now! And realizing I don't have a ladder stalled things somewhat. I initially just scrambled up to the roof using the tree stumps, thinking to use a rope to climb down. Smart, huh? It would have been if I hadn't left the...

I'm back, and ready to... shop!

Just call me Tree-Killer! Never underestimate an FTA addict seeking better LOS... I bought large lag screws and a $10 hand saw. After 45 minutes, the shed was miraculously clear of trees! Bet the wife will be surprised when she gets home. ... as soon as I'm breathing air again instead of...

I'm back, and ready to... shop!

I think I found a better spot for mounting! It'll take a little work (cutting down some smaller trees) and it won't give me a clear southeastern view, but it'll gain me at least 10-15 degrees more :D Right in front of the driveway is a new wooden shed. It's set back slightly, of course, but...

I'm back, and ready to... shop!

After a lot of delays due to work, family, etc, today is the day! I'm mounting the new motor and dish this afternoon or I'll die trying! :D Hopefully it won't come to that... I grabbed the attached aerial photo to give you an idea of my location. Curse the evil tree! All my neighbors seem to...

    Angle meter - Harbor Freight

I've never seen that website, but I'd love to, by the sounds of it... have a link, or more hints about the name so I can Google it? I just bought a 3-way magnetic bubble level last night out of desperation, so I can set up my new motor/dish today :) I'm sure it's nowhere near as nice, but it...

Visionsat...we have an issue with blind scan

One other thing- you may have noticed this, Iceberg (if it's truly a universal issue)... does yours keep accurate time? I've set the time on mine three times so far in the past two days, and it keeps going off for some reason. The funny thing is, I haven't even gotten to really use it yet (just...
