    Antenna Signal Over Internet

Right. Been a while since I sent my 722 back. :)

    Antenna Signal Over Internet

I was not able to get my FiL's DTV Pal to understand instructions from a 5.3 IR remote. Maybe if you step down to an older remote generation, it would work. The disadvantage to that, is that there is no "dash" or "point" key on an older Dish remote, so there's no way to punch directly to 41-2 or...

    Antenna Signal Over Internet

For the Slingbox to change the channel, the tuner to which it's attached has to be supported. Not necessary if you only ever want to watch one channel; you can set the channel on the converter box once and walk away. But if you want to change the channel on a Digital Stream DTX9900, it has to be...

    Antenna Signal Over Internet

The raw bandwidth of a single ATSC stream is up to 19Mbit/sec, or about 20% of a 10BASE-T Ethernet link, or almost 40% of a Wireless-B link. DVD video is less than 9Mbit/sec, for reference. SD (480i) ATSC streams are up to 3.5Mbit/sec. A Slingbox takes a single High-Def channel (must be...

    Curious question...

My 722's OTA tuner was really sensitive to noise and overload. The picture was a lot more consistent when I put a 1*4 splitter between it and the source antenna. Just a thought. :)

    BUD 4 OTA?

I think you're trying to create a Channel Master 4251. It had a four-bay bowtie in the middle, pointed -at- the parabola, and had a grounded fence "behind" it (facing the towers) to keep the elements from being flooded with noise. Monster antenna, monster results back in the '70s, but I'm not...

    Recording OTA w/TIVO?

TiVo Community - Just like this place, only they don't all hate TiVos. ;) Zatz Not Funny! - Lots of stuff, but some cool TiVo tricks here and there.

    Recording OTA w/TIVO?

That's the best solution I've found, actually, TiVo+Roku+Atv2. The Roku doesn't really do much that the TiVo doesn't, unless you count the ability to play h.264 encoded MKV files, so my collection of DVD rips will actually work. Personally, I'm just going to do the $0-down, $20/mo lease option...

Don't hold your breath for Channel 8. If you do still have trouble with it, get a set-top pair of rabbit ears and a UVSJ signal combiner to merge the signals in the attic.

Signal strength varies greatly from time to time

Just some random things to keep in mind (Jim's suggestion is best; check the cabling first). digital UHF signals are fairly sensitive to wind and moisture. Summer rain might not affect your signal, but a heavy fog may. By sensitive to wind, I don't mean that the wind blowing affects the radio...

OTA ATSC HD receiver with PVR possibility

If you want to watch American HD television from Europe, you need three or four components, and they all cost money. You'll need a TiVo ($300 + $13 monthly subscription, or $650 for a TiVo with a lifetime subscription, or $20 for leased hardware with a 2-year contract), a Slingbox Pro-HD ($300)...

OTA ATSC HD receiver with PVR possibility

Krell's right, a PC is the only workable solution for US programming if you can't do it the TiVo way (which is the most elegant). Being in Northern Europe, I'm sure that a lot of our way of life looks absurd, and part of that is the restriction on television. The Motion Picture Association of...

    Alright. What's Antenna TV?

I don't see channel 23 on that list. Anyway; your distance from the cluster of towers to the East would indicate that a four-bay bowtie (Antennas Direct dB4, Channel Master 4221) would work well. However, you're in Kentucky, so I looked a little harder, and you don't have a single channel within...

OTA and OTARD Questions...where to post?

You know, I never did read the entire verbiage myself, I just went with what I was told as an installer.

OTA and OTARD Questions...where to post?

OTARD only specifically allows for one antenna (which includes dishes) according to the letter of the law. If you're already (fiercely) exercising your OTARD rights by having an FTA dish, you shouldn't erect a second antenna and expect it to go without contest. If you're just being paranoid, and...

FCC Says you CAN put up that antenna - HoA can't stop you (FCC OTARD reference)

I worked as an installer for DirecTV for six months, and we spent the better part of a day during the training period discussing OTARD. The law does protect you from your own HOA in the legal sense, but you still have to live with the uptight morons you call neighbors. You have the right to buy...

    lost local signal

More likely that you broke something inside one of the RG59 connectors or the amplifier circuit for the antenna is failing. There is no way in which RG59 is superior to RG6 except for a tighter bend radius, though RG59 is usually quite adequate for OTA TV reception. Most of the amplifiers in...

    HD America Gold

My single biggest disappointment with Dish America was losing my Platinum channels. I had reconciled myself to losing all of the News Corp channels (except for NatGeo in Gold), but losing HDNet Movies, UniHD, and MGMHD was almost more than I could bear.

    922 dvr

Do you use DishOnline? Do you use Sling-like technologies currently? If no to either one, skip the 922, and buy an EHD for your 722k instead. There are cheaper ways to do either one, if you don't currently do both.

    HD only packs ?

Hemi, if you go with D*, insist on an HR-24.
  23. C

    HD only packs ?

Oops. I'll have to respond when I get home; all of those channels are blocked in my guide, by me. Pretty sure I get Dis and DisXD, don't remember Toon or Nick. Actually, I think Nick isn't there, but I'll just have to look.

    HD only packs ?

I switched to Dish America Bronze about 2 billing cycles ago. It costs me $35-ish per month (plus one DVR fee [my only receiver is a leased 722, feeding one TV]), so I have USA/TNT/Spike/Locals for about $42 per month after taxes. There are also Silver and Gold tiers, but I'm doing this to shave...

8 bay antenna vs 91XG yagi

"Yagi" style antennas only go up to about 50 miles. A 4-bay bowtie typically has more UHF gain than even the biggest yagi, which is why the dB8 and log-periodics like the 91XG exist. Even with the best-designed, best-built antennas, UHF is only transmits to about 70 miles, Tropo-skip...
