    Question for subscribers…

I live in a rural area and cable is not available. When I moved here, DirecTV was all that existed. I've been a subscriber since 1995 and have no regrets. I moved up to HD in 2005 and got the HR20 late 2006. Jim in Edom

    High Def DVR General Question

I'm a long time DirecTV subscriber (1995), but relatively new to High Def, and even newer to the DVR. I was under the impression that the new HR20 was the first High Def DVR. Was there one before the HR20? If so, is the primary difference the ability to record the new MPG4 broadcasts?

    Samsung/Tivo DVR

Unfortunately I'm on the road a lot, but I tried to get this unit activated this past weekend. What should have been a 5 minute call to DirecTV CSR turned into a 30 minute call because the CSR apparently had little experience with activating a unit! After all was done, I didn't have any...

    Samsung/Tivo DVR

Although I've been a DirecTV customer for many years, I'm new to DVRs, just recently got into an HR20. My second TV, which is non-HD, and won't be upgraded any time in the near future, I'm running one of my former hand me down DirecTV units. But I've been given a Samsung/Tivo SIR S4040R, and...

    H20, HDMI & Sony KDF-E42A10

I have the Sony KDF-E50A10 with the HR20 using HDMI, and don't have any issues. I do remember seeing that some have reported issues with it, but don't remember what type of problems. To be fair, I'm only using HDMI for the video, as my audio is connected via optical cables to the receiver.

    HR-20 Remote Question

Even if you don't want to ever use your remote for your TV, it is my experience that you'll need to program your remote for your TV first, and then program it for the receiver. I didn't need that remote to control the TV, and when I tried to program just the receiver, I never could get it to...

    How late will installer work?

I had an install of the new dish in December. It was scheduled for the afternoon, don't remember the time. The installer called several times during the day, delaying the appointment each time. He finally called late in the afternoon, said he was on his way. Even though it's in Texas, it was...

    Software Update for the H20-600

Got in last night from being on the road, and noticed that we had received the update mid-week. Don't see any improvements in anything, but did notice that my favorites have been reset! Also when I use the HD filter on the guide, it has always shown channels I don't get, ex HBO and Showtime...

    Distant HD Locals

The HD network stations (ABC/CBS/FOX/NBC) are available through DirecTV, so there's no chance they will allow you to get the national ABC feed. I'm surprised that they haven't cut you off from the others already. When DTV start broadcasting the DFW stations, WFAA-ABC was not included in the...

    H20 Firmware Update ???

Didn't realize you could key in a channel on that screen. It would have been nice if the CSR had told me that...it would have saved me a lot of time and effort.

    H20 Firmware Update ???

I had the same issue with editing my favorites list...wouldn't go past channel 10. If I scrolled one channel at a time, it would just stop when it got past 10. But if I did "page down" using the channel button, it would reset. I forced a download, hoping to get the problem resolved, but...

    hd locals in dallas/fortworth?

With the exception of WFAA-HD, they have been available since early December. There is another recent thread that suggests Belo has reached an agreement with DirecTV for WFAA-HD, but I'm not getting it yet.

Belo completes carriage deal with D*

As noted in a similar thread, DirecTV doesn't show WFAA-HD as an available local channel, and of last night, I'm not getting on my H20. Did you see this as an announcement or press release somewhere?

HD LIL, but not all 4 networks?

I'm in the Dallas/Fort Worth market, and WFAA (ABC) is still a hold out after more than 4 months. I periodically contact WFAA for an update, and the last word was that there was no pending resolution.

    One-for-All Universal Remote

I also have the 8910, just recently bought it at Amazon for under $25. It didn't come with the codes for the H20, but it was easily upgraded via phone. When you connect with customer service, you just hold the remote up to the phone, and they send the codes. The process sounds like an fax...

    ABC HD in DFW Market

I found out from DirecTV that it was KLTV that denied the waiver. I'm probably not going to push the issue anymore. I live in Edom, which is only about 20 miles from Tyler. Why DirecTV considers me to be in the DFW market (which is about 100 miles away), I'll never understand. But I'm grateful...

    ABC HD in DFW Market

I'm not complaining about being in that market. I'm just aggravated that WFAA and DirecTV don't work out their differences...and that I can't get the waiver that WFAA says that I should qualify for. In the meantime, I do get very nice reception of KLTV in Tyler with my simple attic...

    ABC HD in DFW Market

I don't understand how markets are assigned. We only live about 20 miles West of Tyler, but for whatever reason are considered to be part of the DFW market. I'm not complaining. By being part of that market, we had "local" programming long before we would have it by being part of the Tyler...

    ABC HD in DFW Market

But if I'm in considered to be in the DFW market, at least as far as DirecTV is concerned, why would another market be allowed to deny the waiver?

    ABC HD in DFW Market

I'm in zip 75754. I'm actually closer to Tyler, but for whatever reason, we're considered to be in the DFW market. I didn't mean to suggest that DirecTV turned me down on the waiver. But when I contacted DirecTV about the process for requesting a waiver, they told me they'd contact WFAA on my...

    ABC HD in DFW Market

I'm in a similar situation, just a little farther away. In an email conversation I had with WFAA staff regarding DirecTV, I was told that I was outside of their grade B signal, and should readily qualify for a waiver. But when I applied through DirecTV for the waiver, I was turned down. I'm...

    Where is your dish?

My 5LNB dish is mounted on the gable of the house, about 18 feet off of the ground. I had anticipated that it would be mounted in the same place as my old round dish, but the installer couldn't get a line of sight for all sats. So he had to move it over about 10 feet. He actually did a nice...

Welcome New Members! (Please Say HI here!)

As I'm reminded every time I sign on, I haven't posted any messages. So here I am, letting you know that I'm not only just reading messages, I'm actually creating one. I'm a long time DirecTV subscriber, since 1996; primarily because I moved to a rural area, where cable is not available, and I...
