    Big Brother is Watching!

I believe DirecTV has started doing some of these proactive calls. He may be connected via his home network to the internet. He may be able to opt out of this on DirecTV's web site. Or I am completely wrong and he should be very careful and cautious.

Trust Counts... A Note from SatelliteGuys Founder Scott Greczkowski

Calling DirecTV, DIsh, or any other company names or insulting them won't get it done any faster either. BTW, I am a DBS Chat Room Mod and name calling by anyone in DBS's chat room will not be tolerated. This is not a threat. It has been a long standing policy for as long as I have been a...

So this approach makes it acceptable here. This is where I think both sides (at least myself) strongly disagree.

Well....I don't have nor do I know of the history you are referring to. And I'm not asking. I don't want to get into a pissing contest either or be the cause one. I'm a big boy, you can straight shoot all you want. In turn I will be a straight shooter as well. You are preaching about...

Trust Counts... A Note from SatelliteGuys Founder Scott Greczkowski

Oh come on Bob99, comments about "dish network moderators cant pull there heads out of their asses" and "These guys are so far up D*'s butt that they cant even realize it, so their skew is viewed". I guarantee you that if I posted that dribble over at DBStalk you and everyone one of your regular...

You are correct. My apologies. I will edit my post. I guess "name calling" could be replaced w/ insults.

Trust Counts... A Note from SatelliteGuys Founder Scott Greczkowski

Don't beat around the bush I wouldn't expect anything less. But there are certainly better ways to articulate and present your position without the name calling. No....it's not the so called truth that's makes it unprofessional. I am not a moderator at DBStalk, so I cannot and should not have...

Trust Counts... A Note from SatelliteGuys Founder Scott Greczkowski

I'm sorry.....I have to repsond to this. With all do respect....with comments like this....why would you think DirecTV would want to work w/ a site that tolerates comments like that. It is toatlly disrespectful and unprofessional. And yes, DBStalk would not tolerate posts like yours. It...

    Tipping The Installer?

That would be very generous and obviously would be appreciated by the installer.

    Tipping The Installer?

I TIP if the service is as expected. Which of course can be subjective. A $20.00 is usually the norm for me. I don't know if letting him know up front would be advantagous or not.

    What Dish will they install?

OK...thanks for the clarification. I guess the single LNB is the "round" then. It's been a long while since I've even looked into "round" vs. "oval".
  12. H

    What Dish will they install?

The policy may have changed of late and they may just install the Slimline and get it over with. If you do end up w/ just the the oval you will only receive programming from the 101 slot. Also you will need a multi-switch.
  13. H

    What Dish will they install?

No...the slimline dish is not teh oval w/ 3-LNB. The slimline is a bit larger and heavier and has 3 visiable LNB's but one has the capabability of receiving 3 of the 5 sats. Solid Signal | DIRECTV® Systems, HDTV Antennas, DISH Network, satellite equipment and home entertainment supplies &...

    What Dish will they install?

Unless you are getting an HD capable receiver upgrade they will not have a need to upgrade your dish. At least that's been my understanding.

just made the switch to direct- Need tips on setup

Keep in mind that if Native is "On", channel changes will be a bit slower has the box changes resolution. Maybe 2-3 seconds in some cases.

    HD Install Questions

They call it a lease fee. It used to be called a mirror fee. Either way it is 4.99 per for every receiver after the primary. Be careful w/ Ebay. You need to get the RID number and call DirecTV and make sure the receiver is "clean" As in it is not on a deliquent account and has been or is...

just made the switch to direct- Need tips on setup

For the most part set the resolution for what looks best for you. However, I would have to say I think it's best to set the resolution for whatever your HDTV native resolution is. In your case 720P.

    HD Install Questions

    1. No matter where you get your receiver it will be considered a lease. Unless you pay full retail and can prove it. MSRP is like 500 or 600 I think. A self install will only occur if you DO NOT obtain the equipment from DirecTV. Some have been able to do that and get an equal credit foir the...

Yes...you can. I've never done it...but it is my understanding that works. But they do track that as well for abuse.

Hey IWC, I'm not sure if you can get a PIN thru the standard front line CSR's or not. I've never tried. I've received it via email or by phone call (when they left a voice mail). I think sometimes the front line CSR's may transfer you if you ask, but that is hit or miss from what I...

Do I have to have a landline?

Having a phone line connected will allow you to use Caller ID and have it displayed on your TV screen if that is of any interest to the OP.

    That's what they're countin' on. :)

    customer retention #

I certainly don't want to appear argumentative, but, the direct line was changed about 6 months ago. I'm not sure what number you misplaced, but I really don't think it was the true retention dept. They call it customer express now. 1-800-824-9081 They then ask for a PIN. I certainly could...

    customer retention #

There is no longer a direct number to retention. Due to past abuse of the system. You can email your question/concern/complaint and sometimes they will provide you with a 4 digit PIN that is good for like 3 days or so. Or you can call and ask to be transferred, this may or may not work. Or...

    Missing Channels

I would remove the multi-switch and directly connect the cables to a/the receiver(s) and bypass the switch. A bad multi-switch can certainly cause this problem. As well as a bad LNB assembly. Please indicate what dish you have exactly. You should have the AU9 Slimline and the model of your...
