Do I need this DECA thing?

I just got my DirecTV install today. The installer said that this DECA thing is needed for internet connectivity of the HR24 HD DVR I got. Why does this box have an ethernet port on it, if it needs this DECA thing? From what I've searched for and read online, the DECA created a network inside...

Signal drops for no apparent reason

In my current location, I can't get D* anymore. So, I'm using my D* box(RCA DTC210) to get my local OTA HD signals. The antenna is a Silver Sensor, and here's this part: * yellow - uhf KSWB-DT 5.1 WB SAN DIEGO CA 175° 8.6 19 * yellow - uhf KNSD-DT 39.1 NBC SAN DIEGO CA 175° 8.6 40 *...

    Lg 4200a?

Anyone know anything about these recievers? I did a search, and it turned nothing but jack and ish on this thing. The list of specs/features on LG's website doesn't seem to tell me much, as it is a rather short list. LST-4200A Advanced HDTV/Analog TV Receiver ATSC/NTSC/Clear QAM...

I'm a moron(on my install), but do have a question

So, last night I go to install my D* equipment at my new apartment. Management doesn't want a 'bucket and cement', so I took some extra 1x8s and made a flower pot basically. Grabbed the pipe from the old place, and mounted it to the inside of the box. I'll get pics later to show you all...

Using satellite antenna as a cell phone antenna?

Ok, just had my DirecTV installed. Only using 1 room service, so I have an extra RG6 port on the outside of the house. I get horrible cell phone reception inside my house. Anyone know if it would be possible to somehow use the extra port to improve cell phone reception? General idea here...

Signal meters, what do they look for?

Ok, I haven't seen a signal meter. I'm getting my first sat install on monday. But I'm just curious, what do the signal meters look for? Are they tuned to a certain frequency(like a beacon freq)? Or do they just average the strength they get from a freq range? Or something else entirely...

    Just signed on with DirecTV!

After much debate about what I should do, I decided to take the free standard reciever offer from DirecTV. I was a bit leary of going out and buying an HD reciever without experiencing the service first. So I figure I can use the standard setup for a month, if I like it, I'll go buy a new...

Deciding on a service? Which one for me?

Currently, there is Comcast cable in the house. It's paid for by my housemate. He is moving out shortly though. I've never been real happy with Comcast(all around, in general). I have a JVC HDTV(nice 48incher) that only gets good use when watching a movie. I'd like to watch some tv in HD...
