Directv dispute with Viacom IS OVER!

Honestly, I could care less if Viacom channels ever come back to Direct TV. It always urked me to know that part of my bill went to some of those stations anyway. My kids are a little upset, but it will pass, and if they wind up watching a little less TV as a result, well I have no problem...

Upset with DirecTV offer to new subscribers, where is the loyalty to existing customers

Hey, it's a valid point. I get that I am not a new customer and that I should not expect to be able to take advantage of new customer promotions they are using to lure new subscribers into their base, but like you say, that is one heck of a promotion! Free NFL Ticket is big time bucks. And...

Direct DVR (whole home) vs DishNetwork DVR

I had Dish for 10 years and always ruled out Direct TV because of what I experienced and friends and neigbors homes who had Direct. I always thought the Direct receivers were sluggish, had fewer features, and were not as intuitive as the Dish Receivers. The HR24 however, was a game changer. I...

How does the DVR know what is first run?

Okay, I remember this thread from awhile back and decided to resurrect it, because . . . I believe they have fixed the problem with first run recording events! I'm not sure when it happened, but I noticed one of my programs on Fox News is no longer re-recording the same show three times a day...

HD Receiver on Std Def TV

That's what I did too. Makes sense on several levels. Not only does it work with MRV, but you're already set up to replace that TV some day, even if you have no plans to do so now. Since you really can't buy SD TV's anymore, it makes sense to have a receiver that is compatible with what's...

    Sound Dropouts?

Hard to believe? I promise you, I'm not making this up. We found it particularly prevelant while watching the last season of Dexter on Showtime, but that was by no means the only occurence of it. I tried numerous things like swapping out receivers, only to find they all did it. Switching...

    Sound Dropouts?

What's really interesting about this is my 622 and 722 receivers did the same thing when I had Dish Network. I was looking for the problem to be going away once I switched to Direct, only to find it happening in the same way on the new HR24 receivers as well. It does seem to be limited to...

How does the DVR know what is first run?

As a new convert from Dish Network I can tell you this is something the Dish receivers handled much better. They never recorded copies of the same show, even those shows like they run on Fox News or the other news channels mutliple times in the same day. Even if you set it up to record all...

AM21 OTA Module, Diplexers, and DECA and MRV ? ? ?

Yep, that's what I'm going to do. Another independent line. Thanks for the feedback though. It's nice to know it's necessary before going to the trouble!

Moved to Directv from Dish Network

Wow! Ditto!! This is exactly me. If I didn't know better I would have thought I wrote it myself. I was a top tier customer subscribing to AEP for more than 10 yrs. with three HD DVR's. I like the way you put it. They slammed me with $34/month in extra dual DVR fees for the privilege of...

AM21 OTA Module, Diplexers, and DECA and MRV ? ? ?

Is it possible all this can work together? Just got installed with the whole house DVR set up and the DECA connection to the internet. One thing I had with Dish that I kind of miss was OTA reception using an antenna in the attic and then I used diplexers to backfeed the antenna signal down the...

    Tip or not.

88 degrees? Really? How impressive. :) Sorry, couldn't resist. I think it was about 114 here in Phoenix when they installed my service a few weeks ago. For what it's worth, my installers were great too.

My thoughts after 2 weeks on DirecTv vs. last 10 years on Dish

My bad! I did not know it would work this way!! I always thought the swap button was only for swapping between PIP channels, but I did not realize you could swap without PIP being active. So I guess double play is not a big pro vs. Dish. I stand corrected and thanks for letting me know.

My thoughts after 2 weeks on DirecTv vs. last 10 years on Dish

Thanks I really feel like I have joined the Empire. I have a number of friends who have Dish Network based on my recommendation, and even a few who switched from Direct to Dish several years ago, again because I convinced them to do so. Now I have to inform them what I have done. I haven't...

My thoughts after 2 weeks on DirecTv vs. last 10 years on Dish

Say you have two HR24's . . . HR24-A and HR24-B If someone is watching a recorded program on HR24-A, all other recordings in the list that are stored on HR24-A now have an unavailable icon next to them if you try and access them from HR24-B or any other H24 receiver. HR24-B programs are...

My thoughts after 2 weeks on DirecTv vs. last 10 years on Dish

I hope some find this useful. I was a Dish Network subscriber for more than 10 years. I was always happy with the service and loved the equipment. But over the last 2 years or so, I have become increasingly frustrated with the fees and rate increases, and I was always fighting every 3 months...

    My non install experience today!

Well I finally got mine installed yesterday after the cancellation debacle last week. Have to say, I was impressed. One guy showed up, once he got a full grasp of the extent of the install, called for back-up. At one point we had four DirecTv installers in my home. Never seen anything like...

    My non install experience today!

I had my install scheduled for last Friday, July 2nd, 8am - noon. Same situation as an earlier poster . . . I get a call at 11:45am that day telling me that there is a nationwide shortage of HD receivers, and they would have to reschedule for Wednesday, July 7th. Pretty aggravating considering...

    HR24 vs. VIP722

This true as I currently have 1ea. 722 and 2ea. 622 recievers. But don't forget, the new HD duo dvr fee is $17 for each dual tuner DVR after the frst one. In my case, I pay $34/month for this.

Another Dish Net sub thinking of jumping to Direct - Questions . . .

Okay, thanks again for the responses on this. I'm getting closer to pulling the trigger. I have a few more questions. 1. Even though the new HR24 can provide whole house DVR functionality, I would assume that applies only to watching recorded programs or setting up recordings. But in...

Another Dish Net sub thinking of jumping to Direct - Questions . . .

Thanks Murph74! Very helpful post. I'm a current subscriber to Dish Network Everything Package, but because I have a total of three HD DVR receivers, they are now hammering with a new $17 per extra receiver fee at $34 per month. It's ridiculous. Direct TV hardware has always been a barrier...

    America's Everything Pak value

Yeah, AEP is a good deal if you have one TV. In fact that could be applied to all Dish programming. $17 per extra receiver is over the top. I'm moving end of the month. Perfect time to switch, and I think I'm going to.

Another Dish Net sub thinking of jumping to Direct - Questions . . .

Hey guys, I've been a long time subscriber to Dish Network and am seriously thinking of making a switch. Their new Dual DVR fees are killing me. I've always liked the Dish Network equipment better than Direct, but the new HR24 receivers has me rethinking that. Have some questions though, and...

    America's Everything Pak value

Believe me, I won't make the switch without thoroughly understanding exactly what the HR24 system is and what it can do. I won't make the switch because of the hardware, rather hardware may no longer be the barrier it once was. My motive is price. I can save 30 bucks a month with four TV's on...

    America's Everything Pak value

I've had the AEP for years, but this new billing structure may very well be the last straw for me. I have a 722 and two 622s. I am now getting charged $34 a month for the two 622s, tagged ad Duo DVR Fee. My new bill, even with the $10 HD for life credit is now $150/month! AEP used to be a...
