    Directv in the RV

If you are using a receiver that came out of your house, and you had an HD SWM setup, you have to go through a setup and tell your receiver what dish you're using. This is a little tricky because you have to "escape" from the auto setup that your DTV receiver will want to do.

Help with DirecTV Dish Selection for Tailgating/RV Use

Gotta toss my $.02 on this one. I have been tailgating with my RV for 8 yrs and the last five I've had D* (E* before that) and while HD is GREAT, to me it's just not worth it. I have a 32" flatscreen and my 18" oval dish is SO easy to align and carry around. I can literally be up in 3 mins...

    set up in the mountains

When I use my D12 in my RV (swm at home) I have to change the setup to "multiswitch" from SWM. Did you do that? I ALWAYS use the signal strength meter on the receiver. I feel it's easier than a meter. Hope this helps.

DirecTV D12-500 receiver with a Wineguard Roadtrip Minimax RV Dome antenna

This is a tough one as I'm not familiar with the winegard. Question... Is the dish SD or HD? If it's SD, and all you're really looking for is the 101 sat, try to hit "exit" on the remote just as it begins setup. (this is REALLY early )in the process and then select the setup menu. You need to...

Considering the switch from Dish for sports...but what do I lose?

I can tell you this for sure. In our market (Cincinnati) the Reds games are ALL in HD (if FOXCin provides them) on D*... VERY few are in HD on E*. You may want to check in your market.

HBO & MAX On The Go

I signed up yesterday and I LOVE it. VERY simple to sign up and set up. I have not gone HDMI into my TV (from macbook PRO) yet but it works great and looks great.

    Weather Question

I don't know what your history has to do with it but yes, SD channels are more likely to still be received during bad weather than HD channels. This is particularly true if your dish is misaligned.

    What dish do I need?

Just be aware that you may not get your local network affiliates if you're beyond the spotbeam. I live in greater Cincy and have gotten (SD) as far as 150 miles south. HD may be more restrictive (or not... I'm not sure.)

Which is the Best DVD Recorder?

I have a Panasonic DMR-HS2, I believe it's a 2003 vintage. This has a 40 gig HD in it but I find using it degrades the image somewhat. I have (knock wood) been able to record live HBO and DVRed HBO to DVD using it. I find that I must have an HDMI cable out to TV and then use RCA (red, yellow...

TRYING TO SET UP A PORTABLE DISH FOR RV

You have a number of issues. First off you SHOULD be able to put a connector and then use a barrel to get you to the receiver, BUT it might be a cleaner/stronger signal if you do a little disassembly and run an uncut cable to the receiver. If you use the "search" feature of this forum you'll...

    no coax connection...

You can modulate RF but if you're on a TV larger than about 20", I doubt you'll like it. Or let me say I know I would NOT like it.

    Whole Home Service

You will be able to initiate a recording from the HD receiver. You will not be able to pause live TV and/or go back from that receiver.

Help with a problem (SL3 and Phase III)

I will start by admitting I cannot answer all your questions. However, you do NOT have a SWM. I suspect you mean Slimline (not swingline) dish. The SL3 on a phaseIII may require special alignment (suggest you search this topic using on this board for other replies.) As you might guess, if all...

    Slimline dish.

As far as I know there is only one slimline dish but the LNB modules vary. The one that is being installed now has only one "cone" whereas the earlier ones had 3 (and maybe more, but smaller) "cones." I hope that answers your question. There was an oval dish which preceded the slimline. I...

    Great Offer I Got...

Dishrich... thanks for the heads up. I called and got the HD fee waived for two years HOWEVER, the young lady could not offer me the ST package as she said it was OUTBOUND calls only. So my question is... do any of you that are considering the offer have a callback number from D* that I can try...

    Tailgate Set Up

That's an interesting mount. Is it magnetic? I use a "bullzeye" but apparently they quit making them. Anyway, we are assuming you're SD only (which is quite simple) so here are a few things to watch for. If you have a SWM system that you're pulling the extra receiver from, you'll have to do a...

Is it Easy to get a HR24 from DirecTV? & Whole Home DVR question

Hi... I have been a D* customer for several years (beyond my original contract) I ordered MRV and upgraded to a new HD DVR as well (for two total and two HD receivers.) I did NOT get an HR24 for either DVR. In fact I kept me HR20 and got another HR20. Other than the occasional draggy slow bug...

    Question on Bundling DirecTV

Hi... I'm not familiar with Century Link, but here (Cincinnati) we do get a $6/mos. discount by bundling with our local landline provider, Cincinnati Bell. I signed up with them originally but all my upgrades and in fact ALL contact since is with D* directly. Once you originate the order you'll...

    Football, Local Channels, & HD

ALL NFL games this season originate in HD. So if you're not receiving them in HD it's because 1.) Your locals are not retransmitted by D* in HD o; 2.) You're not receiving your locals OTA in HD. ; 3.) Your local station (while it MUST be digital) is not yet HD. I cannot think of any other...

    Requirements for Satellite in RV

I have to say what I always say when these RV/tailgating questions are posted: make VERY SURE you are willing to spend the time and money to go HD. A dual LNB (SD) 18" dish is so simple to align and unless you're going larger than 32" TV it's not worth the time. Please realize that I have four...

    New: Whole House Networking question

On my install there is only one DVR that has a wired ethernet connection. I believe this is referred to as a DECA (sorry don't know the acronym) and it "feeds" the others through the RG6 wiring utilizing a splitter/combiner system. I am not sure if this can be achieved wirelessly but it's to...

    TAILGATE DISH LOCATION

Just remember that it's absolutely CRITICAL to have the mast plumb (particularly HD) and that's gonna be kinda hard on the roof of your vehicle!

Satellite at the tailgate. please help

In your setup you have to be sure to "tell" the system what type dish you have . When you're home you have a slimline but with the 18" dual LNB, you will have to run a system check. Just takes a few more minutes. Does that answer your question? You should search on "tailgate" as there are...

    Lack of locals while tailgating....

ICE: he states he is getting his locals while in Mobile (I assume it's on his permanent home setup which may be a slimline.) D* is migrating locals OFF the 119 all the time so it is possible that Mobile's are now on the 101. (I don't know that, but it's possible) His tailgating set up is a...

    Lack of locals while tailgating....

Mike... try setting up your rig at home and see if you're getting them there (Mobile.) If so, then you know you're outside of the spotbeam when in Auburn you're rooting for your tigers.
