Leaving DirecTV, but no hard feelings... :)

After many years on satellite... first Dish and then DirecTV (switched when Dish had a falling out with MSG and I couldn't watch Sabres games).... I've gone back to cable. Really it kinda became a money thing. Combined cost for TV, internet, and phone was about $230 when I was on satellite. Now...

    Just got a 4K TV and.... it's confusing.... :)

A LOT of TVs will only output 2-channel sound from a non-HDMI source.

    Just got a 4K TV and.... it's confusing.... :)

I saw a Samsung Bluray player that says "upscaling 4K". I'll need to look into more about what exactly that means. I know what upscaling is. Just.... need to learn more. It was I think $189. For now I'll just be happy with what a beautiful picture I've got with the content available :)

    Just got a 4K TV and.... it's confusing.... :)

Well... what happened actually was that my brother-in-law's old Sony 34 inch TV pooped out. (picture tube... old.... and holy cow heavy!). He's on Social Security and the wife said, "You've been wanting a new TV but had no real reason to get one." (Our Panasonic plasma was working fine) "So we...

    Just got a 4K TV and.... it's confusing.... :)

I'm not sure there's enough 4K content on DirecTV for me to go through all of the reconfiguring AND they'll charge me another $6 a month for the new RVU. I think I'll just hold off and look for other options. I don't even own a bluRay player yet. :) I have a DVD changer. The smart remote for...

    Just got a 4K TV and.... it's confusing.... :)

Just got a Samsung 6950, 50 inch. UHD 4K, yadda, yadda, yadda.... I called DirecTV and said, it's in my living room, connected to my HR-34, and I don't see any 4K programming availability. Nope... The Genie (HR-34) needs to be connected to a NON-4K TV. The new Samsung doesn't get connected to...

Post what DirecTV retention offered you!

If you switch to cable, aren't you still paying a lot? And I'm not trolling... I just keep looking at my bill and going, "We're really paying that much to watch TV?" Last time I called retention when my contract was up, I got one of my HR24s upgraded to an HR34. There was a $99 upgrade fee, but...

HR-34 not responding to down arrow in The List

Would be nice if it would get fixed. Rebooting is not always convenient (like when you have things recording!). All we can do is go into the bedroom and use the HR24 and watch recorded shows there. And even THAT doesn't always prove useful. Tonight I'll have a hockey game recording. I'll wait...

    Equipment upgrade suggestion

Agreed. I have an HR34 in the living room, an HR24 in the bedroom, a Genie in the kitchen. I can record 7 things at the same time. That sounds like a lot.. and it is, but believe it or not we've used that kind of capacity. Mostly if we go out for an evening or take the dogs and go away for a...

HR-34 not responding to down arrow in The List

The button press should be the same. I mean... they're the same buttons. Maybe the RF takes longer to respond? There's an IR-to-IP converter that I might look into, as most of my stuff is becoming network-attached. I'm not sure there's a better way to control everything in the house from...

HR-34 not responding to down arrow in The List

Mine is set up as IR. My wife points it like... straight up in the air... all over the place, AND my equipment is in a cabinet, behind glass doors with divided lights. Still works. The blaster on the MX-980 will actually go through a blanket (yes... tested and confirmed! heheheh)

HR-34 not responding to down arrow in The List

Do you happen to know if the issue exists in the CE releases? I think my HR34 is on the "normal folks" release

HR-34 not responding to down arrow in The List

I love my MX-980. Best remote I've ever owned. And I've had it a few years now and it still looks and works perfectly. What kind of issues are you having? I'm just curious.

    damn snow...

Yeah, this is wet and sticky. Temp outside is 32. Just weird 'cause I've never had to do it before on all these years. :) I taped an old corn broom to a 10ft aluminum pole I had for... something or other... and I used painter's tape :) hehehhe.... hey, it worked, right?

    damn snow...

For the FIRST TIME in all the years I've had satellite (more than 10 years maybe?) I had to go out and gently sweep the sticky snow off our dish. :) It was maybe an inch thick. Came right off when I touched it, but.... first time... so I'm no longer a snow-clearing virgin... *sigh*

HR-34 not responding to down arrow in The List

Anyone got any idea why my HR-34 will decide not to respond to the down arrow ONLY when in the List (recordings)? I can down-arrow anywhere else. I rebooted the other night before we went to bed and nothing was recording and after a reboot, it worked again. Now tonight my wife went to watch...

Debating.... GenieGo or a Syma X5C-1 camera drone....

I bought the Syma camera drone :) The GenieGo is still in consideration, but I'm holding off for a bit. Also looking into "cord cutting" but not sure how far that's going to go either. Thank you for the help so far. :)

Debating.... GenieGo or a Syma X5C-1 camera drone....

So I could just take the GenieGo and connect to my wired gigabit network and be done? I thought the 2nd gen had some new electronics and transcoding was faster. Is that an incorrect piece of information?

Debating.... GenieGo or a Syma X5C-1 camera drone....

ahhh.... if I order a GenieGo from D* directly (pun.... get it?) they can't guarantee it'll be a GenieGo 2. I need the Go 2 for the connection options the 1st gen doesn't have That drone is looking better and better....

Debating.... GenieGo or a Syma X5C-1 camera drone....

On Amazon the GenieGo 2 is $149 (save $50 !!!) .... sure... On Solid Signal it's $169 What's it cost from DirecTV if I just order it online? Hard to find pricing unless I go through adding it and then hoping I get a chance to cancel before it actually orders it. :) AND.... where do I look up...

Post what DirecTV retention offered you!

yeah I really can't go back to Dish. Had them for many years. In fact mt original install was done by.... ME! because they didn't have installers yet. However, they got into a snit with MSG and dropped 'em and as far as I know they never mended that fence. No MSG means no Sabres hockey. So...

Post what DirecTV retention offered you!

I have a ways to go yet before I'm out of commitment. I did have a call from a company trying to get me to switch to Dish (From DirecTV which I now have). I said, "Did they get the MSG channel back yet?". They hadn't. MSG or its alternates carry the Buffalo Sabres games. Can't really call myself...

    Samsung TV RVU question

I have a Genie (HR34) with a genie client in the kitchen and an HR24 in the bedroom. I want to add a TV down in the basement (exercise area). I was thinking of getting a small Samsung that's "DirecTV Ready". I have a wired network connection, power, and an OTA Antenna connection right on the...

    Grounding question

My dish and my electric service entrance are on opposite corners of the house. I drove a copper grounding rod (the big kind, not one of those little skinny, 2 ft long ones) at the dish location. Then I ran a #6 wire around the house to where the house ground is and tied the #6 to that (same as...

    HR-34, external hard drive question

Ok so right now I'm waiting for a replacement for my HR-34 which started having hard drive errors. We're going to lose the stuff on the DVR. (again) I'm sure I've read about this before but can't seem to find it now. If I hook up an external hard drive to an HR-34, is it tied to the receiver...
